“Lovely hotel in an excellent location”
Reviewed October 4, 2013

We stayed here early September and it was lovely. Rising out of the salt flats it is like an oasis with real charm. The pool area was delightful, particularly late afternoon and the staff extremely friendly. The rooms were well appointed and spacious - we had river facing rooms and never came across any noise.

The boat services to the beaches were really good and a treat in themselves. I would strongly recommend the Estreita beach - less crowded and also good to swim on lagoon side. It was a simple hop by boat (another ticket) to Santa Luzia and the excellent seafood restaurants. Eating out was a treat here and in Cabanas. We did not make it into Tavira for a meal but I have no doubt there are a good places.

The food in the hotel was good but would be reason for a 4 not 5 rating. The pool side bar was excellent and had god varied lunch. Morning breakfast excellent. The downsides were evening buffet and lack of outside seating in the evening - it is a real shame to have to sit inside an a/c restaurant at night given the lovely temperatures outside. We also had a very disappointing a la carte dinner - the waiter got it all wrong and the choice pretty weak given how good portuguese food can be.

I would strongly recommend this places, especially for young families as the kids club was very active. Hopefully some outdoor seating can be sorted at some stage.

Room Tip: river view if possible

If you want a quiet peaceful spot in an unusual setting then I would recommend this hotel. Tavira town is lovely, small and yes it has been set up for tourists but it still retains a real original Portuguese flavour. Eating out is cheap and varied, can be rustic but good value. Back to the hotel - a four star hotel it is not! there are too many silly little things that need sorting and updating. Dont get me wrong the swimming area centre piece is lovely and the setting is great. You are not getting the blocks of high rise hotels from further up the coast but a unique little hotel set in a nature reserve. There are problems, nothing major but with a bit of effort this could be a fantastic place. Food - oh dear, it just wasn't hot - at all, not at breakfast or evening meal. Even though a few people pointed this out nothing changed. There is a free bus into town (you can walk it but phew not when its hot!) but it doesnt run on Mondays and Tuesdays - And it stops at 5.30pm why??!! We also found the reception staff a bit stiff and not very knowledgeable about what was going on in there own area. The room and hotel decor is a bit dated but having said that both were always clean and tidy. Overall a lovely stay in a unique place just needs small things sorting out then it would deserve four star! PS, NO ENGLISH BREAKFAST TEA - JUST HERBAL STUFF.

This place was exactly what we were looking for - a relaxed and attractive hotel, near the lovely town of Tavira. The room we had was very pleasant and the air conditioning worked well, which was good as it was a bit mosquito-y so we needed to keep the windows closed (take some repellent!). We drank cocktails by the lovely pool, sitting on loungers in the sun. We only stayed one night, but were very pleased with our choice. The only drawback I found was the food - I'm often a bit disappointed by the quality of all-inclusive buffets, and this was no exception. Don't get me wrong - I can find something to eat anywhere, so I'm not a fussy eater - but it must be something about mass catering that brings the quality of the food down. Not the end of the world, as we still had plenty to eat, and it didn't ruin our stay, but I wonder how I would've felt if we had been there for longer than 1 night.

We stayed here in early August this year. The location is outside of the town, as others have said. It's in the middle of a national park which mostly consists of salt flats. We had a shuttle take us to the hotel as we were not interested in hiring a car in Portugal.

The hotel seemed to have mostly Portuguese guests, as well as other Europeans. This was certainly not a typical all-inclusive resort aimed at a British clientele. There were a few other families from the UK but that was it.

The location was lovely. If you want quick and easy access to the beach, this isn't it. We had a boat ride every day to the proper breach. We didn't mind, and our 4 yr old son enjoyed the ride.

Food was fine. It's not great if I'm honest (we were on half-board) but sometimes it was quite okay. The fish dishes are usually nice. There is also a good salad selection.

I've seen some reviews commenting on children running around everywhere. Well. I hate to state the obvious, but yes, if you're visiting this hotel in August, you'll probably notice a number of children around. ;) The kids club is free and very friendly. Not only do they have activities during the day for them, they have a disco on quite late at night for children as well. It starts around 9:30 or so, and is well-attended.

Overall, I'd recommend this hotel.

This is truly a lovely hotel/resort as long as you are clear where it is and what it offers. It is a good way out of the main town of Tavira (I would say maybe 3km) but for me the setting in the national park, the peace and quiet and the beauty of the coastline more than made up for that.

Really stylish conversion of the old tuna fishing cooperative, rooms of an excellent standard, spotlessly clean and done out in white and yellow and slightly rustic style. Air conditioning very quiet and worked a treat. My room in the main body of the hotel had a little terrace at the back with some plants and a table and a view of the river.

The food was great. I stayed all inclusive and took full advantage! Breakfast was bacon, sausage and eggs, or fresh fruit, or bread and pastries with honey or jam, or yoghurts, or cereal... With plenty of coffee of tea or juice. Served buffet style, have as much as you like. Lunch and dinner were a similar set up to each other, a couple of rotating main dishes (fish, meat, stew etc) with loads of side dishes and salad to choose from. Different soups to start, plentiful bread and a lovely dessert selection. I found many enjoyable things to eat every day. There is a also a snack bar near the pool serving toasties and baguettes as well as Nestlé ice-cream which is included.

Drinks-wise, a great selection of spirits, a very palatable local beer, and a different cocktail available on all-inclusive every day. Plus of course as much Coke, 7-up or Sumol (fizzy orange) as you wanted. What I really liked was the fact that you could get whole 1.5l bottles of water on all-inclusive too. You could just pick one up from the bar each day on your way out to take on your day's travels, or have by the pool.

The hotel pool is lovely, warm and very safe due to the shallow steps leading into it. The jetty at the back of the hotel lets you take boat trips to two beaches, Tavira Island (5 min journey) or Terra Estreita (15min journey). Both of these cost 3€ or less return and the beaches are gorgeous. There is also a desk in the foyer for Formosamar marine wildlife tours, and an office on site where you can hire bikes, kayaks, book onto a flamingo safari tour.... So even though the complex is fairly remote you won't be short of things to do.

There is a courtesy bus provided by the hotel which goes into Tavira about 6 times a day from Wednesday to Sunday. It stops late afternoon though so you would need to get a taxi back at night. This would cost about 8€.

The feeling of relaxation and calm about this hotel is fantastic, and the staff are excellent. All staff spoke near-perfect English and were so polite, friendly and welcoming.

I would not hesitate to book this hotel again and would highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Rooms in the main hotel building mostly overlook the river/coast.

I've stayed for a week in August 2013. It's a very old building with no noise isolation and the gap between doors is very big, and bedrooms are very close to each other.
Beside our bedroom, there was a lady that would start screaming at 10pm and 11.30 pm almost every day (not sure if on the phone or if she is crazy).
We complained in the reception, they said they could move us to another room, but it would not be the same view / location. We preferred to stay in our room.
The Reception informed that this Portuguese lady is a special guest that stays in the hotel from April to September, and she is very special. That's it. We were paying a very high price to stay in this hotel and she is the special guest.
We had to try to sleep with the screaming lady, which was almost impossible.
In the morning, she would have someone to bring her breakfast in a noisy trolley at 7.30am every day and she would chat with the employee for a long time. She had her breakfast with her door open, and making a lot of noise with the cups, etc.
We also mentioned that in the reception, and they repeated that she is a special guest.
I would never stay in this hotel again.

Room Tip: I don't think any room is good in this hotel. If I were you, I would stay in a different hotel i...

Stayed here Full board for the month of October.
An absolutely superb location, with easy access to white sand beaches and Tavira Island from the hotels private jetty ferry boat service at a small charge. All situated within the Ria Formosa nature reserve .
Approx 3mls from Tavira town with periodic courtesy bus connecting and transiting salt pans where Flamingoes were in abundance. Otherwise taxi approx 5 Euros.
Excellent size rooms within main hotel, with either river or sea outlook, just a few steps away.
Very well maintained throughout.
Attached vilas, that historically constituted a Tuna fishing village, now a heritage site, containing the original junior school and church are also available. Assumed to be of the same excellent standard.,
Staff typically extending the best of Portuguese hospitality.
All meals, self served from buffet, of a good standard---Speciality evening meals available at extra charge---One downside being, that if this option was taken, only 10% of already paid for FB meals were allowed as a discount.

Room Tip: All, main block, hotel rooms have desirable verandas and spectacular views.
