“Probably my favourite beach in the Algarve”
Reviewed January 8, 2013

Not to be confused with the town of Tavira. Just outside of the town of Tavira is a road that leads to Isla Tavira. You drive past the Salinas down to the car park by the jetty. The ferry costs just 1.5 euros return each and even during the winter is one an hour. Catch the ferry to the island and a short walk takes you to the beach. A wide golden sandy beach. You can walk for miles and although I haven't done it, I've been told you can walk right back round to the boat jetty. I've only been during December and January but even then, it's possible to walk along the waters edge and paddle. There are some cafe's but be aware they will only open during off season months, if there is demand. One of my favourite places in the Algarve but probably my favourite beach.

“Beautiful sandy beaches and not overcrowded”
Reviewed December 3, 2012

The beach is beautiful and lots of place, not overcrowded. Getting the boat outthere is a bit of a hassle and the tourist shops and a bit of a downfall, but apart from that it's beautiful

“nothing there, you have to go there when it is summer to get all the benefits as advertised”
Reviewed November 8, 2012

the boat trip to take you to the beack is about 2 minutes, and the about 5 minute walk to the beach but there is nothing on the beach at all, you need to take any refreshment or towels to lie on with you

“Beach Lovers and Quaint RomanticTavira!”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Tavira is very Old Portugal- we loved it. Beautiful cobbled streets and parks overlooking the river. The ambiance and people were lovely and friendly. The food good, service good, and overall very romantic and quaint. We stayed at a very economical Pensao, called Princesa, overlooking the river and town.To really experience the "Portuguese culture". It was sweet. Front desk receptionist and staff very accomodating. Beautiful view over the river, lovely little balcony view , 3rdfloor, and open doors, and low saxophone music from down the way, wafting into our room at night. Very quiet and relaxing area. (In October). To get to the beach you must take a ferry, and the water ferry is quite a walk from the town, approx 2 klm, would suggest a car taxi, or if you have your own car transportation, a parking lot is close by to the wharf. Lots of restaurants and bars on Tavira Island. Beautiful beach and nice waves and water. We unfortunately only had one night in Tavira, but we would love to go back someday, and would recommend for the "Real Portugal" experience.....
