“Very tasty - great service”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

Had a lovely meal and lovely service, I had the salmon which was cooked to perfection and a lovely bottle of wine for a very nice price. Was great to sit out doors and watch the world go by. Will be back this month to try the Salmon again.

“pricing changes disappointing”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

We landed back in Tavira Saturday 25 March 2013 and decided to head straight for Jamies Cozinha as we had a fabulous steak there on our previous trip. Unfortuneately were disappointed in the new pricing structure where you pay for your by weight steak and add vegetables, potatoes, sauce seperateley at 2.50 euros a pop! Not impressed. A 230g steak is very small, potatoes gratin pale and limp. Whats happened to the lovely background music. Did not go back rest of trip.

“Well presented, but????”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

This might have been a “bad hair day”, or the “chef might have called in sick” or what do I know? But if this is what they have come to, they need to do some serious work. There are 80 more restaurants in Tavira. It might take some time until we come back. Sorry! At the moment it is not worth the money. It is a bit pretentious and overpriced.

We were four family members visiting Jamie’s for what we hoped would be a good meal. Two of us had been there when the place was relatively new in Tavira, and remembered it fondly as a place where the food was made and presented with the indefinite ”soul” that made the experience something to remember. Not so at this visit.

In all fairness; the food was not bad. The waiter was friendly and relatively knowledgeable although a little at loss when we wanted to know if the goat cheese was Portuguese, and not French, but mostly she could answer questions.

The couvert of “bread and our selection of home-made flavoured olive oils” presented in the menu and remembered from our last visit, was replaced with oily feta cheese, some tomatoes and cut onions in a mix and ordinary olives. Why? Boring.

Three of us had starters. We all wanted “Pastry Parcels stuffed with quail and Goats’s Cheese.”

In spite of the fact that I had a hard time finding the minute pieces of quail, and the goat cheese looking very much like the kind you get in any super market, this was probably the best part of the meal – a good blend of tastes.

My “Mussels cooked in Garlic, Onion, Cream and White Wine Sauce” was OK. But where was the garlic, and why does it taste better when I make it at home?
My mother-in-law found the steak a bit though, and my sister in law wrinkled her nose displeasingly over her “Fillet of Sea Bream” where she found the accompanying Gaspacho Sauce “strange” and the Apple Puree “out of place with the fish”. If “rustic breadsticks” means breadsticks that taste burnt, all is well in that department. The fish was OK.
My husband chose the “Vegetarian Fondant wrapped in Filo pastry and served over a bed of Courgettes”, and he had no complaints.

Desserts: three times “Saffron and Vanilla Crème Brûlle” and one dark Chocolate Mousse with a Cranberry Bottom”. There was not a trace of real vanilla in the brûlle, and we could neither taste nor detect saffron anywhere. It reminded me of a supermarket vanilla sauce sprinkled with sugar before being put under the grill. The chocolate lover thinks that anything which tastes of chocolate is a success, so he was happy.

Maybe Jamie’s is developing into a place for chocolate loving vegetarians? Their selection of vegetarian food is a definite plus.

We had “vino verde” to go with our food. Both bottles held acceptable quality, but they have a stocking problem when you order one bottle, and then want another one of the same kind, and they are out of stock.

When we left there were guests at three other tables. None of them looked as if they were having a remarkable food experience.

“Great food, although it seems to pay to stick to the specials”
Reviewed March 12, 2013

Great food. What else can I say? My wife was not impressed by her salad - she felt it was a bit tired; but my mussels were excellent, and thoroughly enjoyed the evening.

“For a special night out and serious veggies”
Reviewed February 20, 2013

We returned to celebrate Valentine's day and it was better than we remembered (the desserts were very good on this occasion). The menu is very good and features an excellent range of vegetarian meals (plus steak, pork and fish). We had salmon and pork tenderloin for our mains - both beautifully cooked and presented. Yes, it is different to the average Portuguese place and it is more expensive but we feel it still offers vary good value for money. Unfortunately very quiet on our visit which we sincerely hope is not an ominous sign. Highly recommended.
