We went there in January. It was very cold, there was a lot of snow - but it was a beautiful walk through nature, and worth it in the end. I would like to go back there during summer sometime.

To much people during the day but nice in the evening. Simpel clean place to stay and a nice way to learn knowing polish people and food. Next day I climbed Rysy that is Polen highest mountain and that is something every Polish person should do ;-). 4 rather tough hours to the top and when good weather a magic view of the Tatra

Loved the view - trees, mountains, lake - and the over 2 hours of walking. I went there alone (along hundreds of other people), listened The Beatles and just walked and looked the nature. Loved the time by myself.
Did not like hundreds of tourists and the horse carriages - I recently had a knee surgery and I did not pay to use horse carriage to go 16 km up and down, because those poor animals go up and down day by day, several hours per day. They even look sad and I'm not gonna pay for that - if you are young and healty, go on foot.
I did not go there as recommended - before 8 o'clock - but about noon, it is said that before 8 there is a chance of not so much tourists. You can go there by little bus that you can find across the street of the main bus station, there is a sign "Morskie Oko" and the ticket is 10 złoty (it's about 2,3 eur).
You can take some food with you or buy there - beside the lake, there is a place you can buy sandwiches, soup, coffee, chocolate, etc. Certainly take a warm jacket and a rain coat with you (if you don't have, then you can also buy it before entering to National park) - I went there at the end of August and the weather was sunny, then rainy, then windy, then just cloudy and then again a little sunny.
I did not go around the lake, because of my knee, but it looked like a good idea - there wasn't hard-surface road, like the 8 km long trip there, but more interesting road. And less people.

The lake really is beautiful with it's mountains that surround it.

If you are fit then you can walk up hill to the lake, however this would take you a couple of hours. We were part of a tour so a horse and carriage ride was part of our package and glad it was. They are not actually carriages, more like carts and hold up to 24 people depending on size and weight. You can pay for this service. It takes about an hour to get up the mountain and stops at a restaurant, from here it is, what they call, 'a gentle stroll to the lake', however I would call it more like a good walk up a steep incline and takes about 10 mins depending on your pace. It is not a gentle stroll and I would not advise anyone who is not good at walking or who has problems with this type of activity not to do it. It is however well worth the walk up there because the lake is so beautiful and if the sun is out it makes it more wonderful as the light just touches the lake and makes it more beautiful. There is a small cafe at the top and the apple cake is to die for. You can walk down some very uneven stones to the lake, but again if you are not good on your feet I wouldn't recommend this, they are very uneven and not good to walk on, but if you do manage it, it is well worth it. We went in August and there was still some snow on the top of the mountain as well as sun shining which made it really unique. I would recommend taking a jacket or warm clothing with you, good footwear as well. THe temperature can drop rapidly and when it does it can get very cold. We went up in the sunshine but came down in the wind and eventually rain. They say that this can be the case all year round. YOu can walk around the lake but it takes a long time and so if you want to do this make sure you leave yourself plenty of time. Also if you are going in a car/coach a tip is to get there very early as the car park gets very full and they don't mind blocking you in either. The journey up to the late through the mountains is so beautiful and one not to be missed.
