Skagen is a long detour from the rest of Jutland and the rest of Denmark but the Skagen Museum makes it worth the time to get here. The town is pretty enough and the shoreline is spectacular.
We were blown away by the beautiful works here. The way that the artists represented here used the local light in their art is amazing. They are among the first to actually paint out in the field rather than sketch and then paint in their studios. The art is very nicely presented and there is a lot of background info on the artists and their lives in Skagen. The preserved dining room of a local hotel where the artists would stay and eat is fascinating too.
This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip to Denmark
