Down a side street in this small northern town, in an elegant brick building, this museum offers a couple of hours of insight for the visitor who is curious about local history and the artists who chose the Skagen area for their work. For those knowledgeable about these artists, there is inspiration to be found in the paintings on display and the personal histories associated with them. On the occasion of my visit, a show was in place on the life of Kroyer's wife, an artist in her own right. A stunning feature of the museum was a superb reproduction of the hotel dining room in which the Skagen artists used to gather. To see a painting of the artists gathered at the table for drinks and good cheer and then to walk around that very table -- THAT is an experience worth the small admission fee. There is a good gift shop that just might enable the visitor to take some of that feeling home.

We walked up from the harbour in this picturesque town to the Museum where people had queued up for the morning opening in sunshine. Lovely setting. There is a shop, and we enjoyed the art.

after a long day and feeling hungry, my first visit in skagen, was the museum. I was not really in the mood, being hungry, tired and wondered what to expect, but my guide (girlfriend), insisted we visit here first. After 30 minutes of wondering through, I suddenly became captivated by the art, and the point of view. What an amazing history captured here, by these amazing artists. I was taken to the museum first, because my girlfriend (who has lived here, and spent time here), thought it would give a good foundation to our visit of the this great town, and she was right. even if you not into art, visit here. one critiscm, a little more english translation would be awesome. also, if hungry on arrival, it's a short walk to the "polse" caravan and back for a quick snack before entering. enjoy
