Mosquito2009
Yangon (Rangoon), Myanmar

Nice setting but it can be improved more

I stayed in Halnan Augerge Fayoum for a weekend trip with my 2 year old daughter and some friends.
The hotel is set on a historic building of King Farouk's hunting lodge and is probably the only high-end hotel available in this little town Fayoum.
It was fully of Egyptian families enjoying a weekend.
I am sure that it opened with lots of great reputation however, unfortunately, like many other hotels of this kind, Helnan Auberge is not well maintained and looked rather a run down place, especially bathroom. There was not a very hot water and water was leaking from the tub.
Furthermore, they booked us all in rooms facing the road despite prior telephone requests for lake views. It was so noisy as cars were passing by and young people were shouting loud in the street. There were many mosquitos and none of us was able to sleep peacefully.
The breakfast was nothing very special and just ok despite their self-claim as 5 star hotel.
It was nice for an experience but I would probably try another one if I come back to stay in Fayoum.
Date of stay: March 2013
Room Tip: Do not select rooms facing the main road.

I spent a weekend night in this hotel, I will start with the location the hotel is exactly 85km from 6 October city (suburbs of cairo), providing a very nice escape from the crowded city and also make it so suitable for a weekend trip. The road in general is safe and well paved but The last 15 km are a bit tricky as it pass between farms so it's a narrow two direction road. The whole trip took around 1:15 min from 6 October to the hotel doors.
The hotel itself is an old historical hotel that still sustain ls its good condition and its antiques in the lobby area and the corridors leading to the rooms.the staff are so friendly, helpfull and welcoming.
The rooms are big enough to accommodate a family with two small kids; kids under 12 are free of charge. Every room has a big bed or 2 seperate beds and a sofa bed that turns into a bed.
Rooms are in a good conditions with few things that need maintainace like the toilet knob for example.
Some rooms over look the lake and the pool and some overlook the garden try to take the lake rooms ground floor. The hotel is mainly ground floor and one floor only but the ground is better as it give u easier access to the pool. Most rooms are connected so if you r a big family ask about 2 connected rooms.
The breakfast is nice v simple and has the main items but nothing so special. I haven tried the dinner retaurant but few people of my family did and they said that chicken and duck plates are so special.
The last thing to mention is how quite and warm the hotel is. With few visitors and amazing view by the lake providing a v relaxing vacation. Best time to go is early winter (nov-dec) as it is still v warm but not v hot.

Stayed again in March, loved the quiet hotel with it's views of Lake Qarun.
Service excellent and all staff tried to help as much as possible although there were some language difficulties.
Rooms large and well maintained, dining good especially the Egyptian dishes, and meals were very cheap for a 4 star hotel.
Area around Fayoum is so special without any of the crowds.

Room tip: Lake view rooms much nicer than the garden view rooms and higher floor smaller although the view is better.

The best hotel there in comparison with the near ones. It's overlooking Karoon Lake which is a historical place. Very good place & great value for money. you can have day use & stay in the hotel for a couple of days.

Comfortable, old-fashioned hunting lodge look, well-furnished and cosy but quite spacious rooms, comfortable restaurant, good location by the lake, nice pool - all in all a good choice for a long weekend away.

Quibbles prevent the 4th star:
- Some staff need more customer care training - more smiles, please & thank yous etc
- Food was basic, basically a choice of chicken, beef, or fish in a couple of styles
- Lack of activities - basically only the pool. No games room, pool table, lake activities, tennis court etc
- Time-consuming check-out due to mistakes in calculating the bill (despite the fact that the hotel only had a few rooms occupied)
- Car parking is chargeable - admittedly only a small fee but if so small then why not build it into the room fee instead of springing an unwelcome surprise on guests at the end?
- Tourists must be escorted by police on trips round the area - hotel needs to advise of this on check-in to avoid delays in waiting for the escort
