We were intrigued by the outside decor so we ventured in and glad we did. We were greeted by a man dress in old school clobber, down the spiral stairway into a banquet hall full of high pillars, wooden tables and chairs and obviously people enjoying themselves. It was like we had just stepped into a portal that whizzed us back to the medieval times, it was fantastic even the staff were all dressed up like woodsmen and bar wenches. Couple a pints each and a plate of the spicy wings which were phenominal and the prices even better. The whole atmosphere down there really brings out the character of the old town and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Also very busy which is a good sign. Thanks guys.

This place is ace. You feel like you have stepped back in time, because you have, as you enter the vaulted cellars of this restaurant.

Candlelit, you will drink from glass goblets and eat tasty meats off spits. You can ladle up your dish with hearty soups, drink mead and generally feel like you are in an episode of Game of Thrones.

An enjoyable and quirky dining experience.

The building is more than inviting from outside and the interior is a medieval treat. The venison soup with a big hunk of bread was delicious and washed down with a frosty beer all for under 10 Euro.

We went here because it was recommended as a great experience, we got there around 5pm and you go down stairs into the dungeons below which it is all lit by candles. At the bottom of the stairs was a large seating area lots of wooden tables and benches but the host did not seat us here which was almost empty he took us for a walk along some dark corridors lit by candles through another dining area into a further small area where just a family were seated, he put us on the table directly next to them when all other tables were also empty and gave us the menu. We sat for 10 minutes choosing what to have and the baby was screaming the whole time, so we decided to leave. The prices were expensive as you pay for the experience of eating in the dark dungeons by candle light !

Yes it’s expensive and yes it’s touristy... we expected that and booked anyway. I came here with my parents.
We loved the dark dungeon candlelit atmosphere. We chose 3 mains to share and taste, something we could not prepare at home.
The duck and rabbit stew were delicious and different and we could justify the price.
The most expensive dish on the menu however was a complete disappointment. The piglet supposedly roasted for 8 hours. Yes it was tasty, but my Sunday pork roast is more tender and as flavorful and the entire roast does not cost 26 euros! I felt taken advantage off!
If I could do it over, I would have ordered the pork knuckle/shank which looked delicious.
In summary, come for the experience and order carefully!!! Most expensive is not always the best!!
