I have reviewed Vincents before but feel that it really deserves another super-positive recommendation.

The bill (I was not paying) was substantial, but that included three bottles of expensive reds.

If anyone is searching for fine dining in Riga, look no further.Quality and innovation in a refined atmosphere.

Lets get the cost issue out of the way first. Vincents is expensive, very expensive particularly when compared to other restaurants in Riga. If youre not interested in dropping at least 150 Lats (or about $300.00) for dinner for two (with wine) then don't come. If you want a fabulous dinng experience - great service, delicious food and lots of surprises - and price is not an issue it's hard to do better than Vincents. In fact, after having dinner here we would rate Vincents as one of the top five restaurants we've been to anywhere (and that includes many Michelin starred restaurants in France and top restaurants in the U.S. and Canada).

Vincents can be best compared to an old fashioned French restaurant in its approach to service and presentation of food. We were tended to by at least four individuals but never found the service to be overbearing. We were treated exceptionally well and dinner included many nice surprises including a delicious amuse bouche (cantelope with cured ham, toast with a tomato salsa and a small cup of gazpacho) and a table-side prepared currant sorbet in liquid nitrogen (OK, it was a little over the top). Even the fresh, home-made bread seved with our appetizers was excellent.

For our appetizers, we had the Queen scallops (about a dozen were served and prepared beautifully with garlic crisps and other ingredients), zucchini and tomato lasagna with pesto (my wife said it was excellent) and zucchini flowers stuffed with Devon crabmeat.

Our entrees consisted of Gotland (Swedish) entrecôte steaks (very tender and cooked just as we ordered) and fresh giant scampis (one of the daily specials) from Spain which were tender and very fresh. We ordered two sides - ultra crispy frites cooked in goose fat and grilled veggies.

We decided to splurge on dessert and weren't disappointed. We highly recommend the Chocolate Sensation and the chocolate surprise with banana ice cream.

Dinner was excellent and we finished it off by each selecting one of the homemade chocolates (which you will be charged for).

It is a meal we will remember for some time.

i was really looking forward to my meal at vincents. i booked a table before my trip even began and was salivating over the menu for over a month! unfortunately, the food just didn't deliver. i ordered the eel with foie gras (the item which was so enticing) and scallops. the foie gras was great and cooked to perfection but the eel was very disappointing. the scallops were fine, they were good. but that's all i can say. for the price, they should have been amazing. unfortunately, nothing there was amazing.

i will say that the presentation of everything at the restaurant was impressive. from the amuse bouche to the innovative way they presented the palette-cleansing sorbet, that stuff was on point. honestly, though, while the presentation wowed the taste was still just fine. not fantastic.

one final word: allow a lot of time for the meal. i was by myself and was there for over two and a half hours!

Imaginative food, fresh from the daily market, presented with a sense of wit, comfortable tables (not too small) and contemporary decor inside, Terrasse along a large park in the embassy neighborhood.
We took the degustation menu and after giving our dietary requirements and/or allergies, the surprises started.
Spoiler warning: the food is delicious and made from market ingredients, light and sophisticated, what follows is not to be read if you want to be surprised !
The waiter came back with a brown bag and apologized that there had been a problem with our starter, instead he had bought at the corner store two cans of fish. He then proceeded to open them, they contained freshly-made tuna tartare with caviar.
All the other dishes contained vegetables, mushrooms, all individually curated as if they were the main star.
The chef himself presented the dessert: a black and white chocolate ball that melted almost on cue when hot dark chocolate was poured on it to reveal delicious strawberry-based cream inside.
This food with the service and good choice of European and world wines would be worth a Michelin str anywhere else.
The fun is invaluable..The chef, of Latvian parents but born and raised in the UK, has brought back his skills home and trained a whole slew of younger chefs that are placing Riga on the slow food movement map
