New hotel experience in Riga. Old style hotel with huge room including king size bathroom and separate walkin closet. TV channels some Russian inspired and only 1 English speaking. Restaurant was also good with a very enthusiastic and well meaning waiter who did everything to please us. Not exactly crowded there and the kitchen managed to miss some steak requests in terms of medium, bloody raw and medium to raw. However we enjoyed a very nice starter and a good recommended Italian chianti. Can really recommend the hotel in spite of some misses in the restaurant

An old but renovated nice hotel with decent location. Public areas of hotel were in proper condition and clean. Close to the railway station, central park and picturesque old town. Easy access to public transportation, easily reached by bus from airport. Nearly all main tourist attractions, historic locations and some restaurants, bars and cafes within walk distance. Great breakfast buffet. Rooms were big enough and modern. Good LCD TV with international channels. Free wireless internet access. Would recommend even for a longer stay.

Positive: The location of the hotel is very good, very close to the old town center. The interiors and its design are perfectly great, especially the hotel bar is very stylish. The rooms are nice and the breakfast buffet is great

Negative: THE NOISE!!!! The first and hopefully hotel experience, when I did not sleep at all!!! Downstairs in the hotel there is a karaoke bar and a casino! The music was very very loud – it felt like next door and made it totally impossible to sleep even with the earplugs until some 3 o’clock every night (and it was April so still off season for Riga, during summer the parties are supposed to go on until the very morning). Absolutely no go!!! I regret it so much to have booked a room for 3 sleepless nights!

We had three nights at this very central located old Hotel, previously private owned by Benjamins family for centuries. Excellent service and very well kitchen, "home taste"! Location just a few minutes walk from "Old Town" and the central station, as well the large well known Riga market. Our room at 2nd floor was very light coloured, good beds and with a large good bathroom. All international TV-channels, unfortunately not Norwegian channels.

Room Tip: Very quite rooms on 2nd floor.

City trip to Riga, arrived at hotel, amazed by its grandeur. Very nice staff. The room was not huge but more than sufficient, with comfortable beds.
From the hotel the old and beautiful city centre is a couple of minutes walking. Also the art-nouveau area, as well as the old Russian area of Riga is within walking distance.

We stayed here for 2 nights during a weekend. As we have read complaints about the loud night club in the hotel, we asked to be accommodated higher up, away from the noise. In the end we received a room only on the second floor in the new wing but it was very quiet. Judging by the pictures posted by other travellers, all the standard rooms are furnished in red and look more or less the same, the rooms in the new wing have lower ceiling, though. The building is beautiful, typical of the art nouveau architecture of the town. It is a pity that the entry is in the courtyard, as the main entrance with the staircase on both sides is beautiful (but, admittedly, impractical).

Our room (214) was just the right size for 2 people, with a small seating area. The view was towards the wall but it did not really disturb us as we did not spend much time there. The important thing for us was that it was quiet. The room and the bathroom were clean which outweighed small negative details such as the mirror light in the bathroom did not work, the bathroom door was loud upon closing & opening, but these were minor defects for us. The bathroom had underfloor heating which kept the bathroom pleasantly warm.

The communal rooms (bar, restaurant) are beautiful, with stucco and stained glass windows. Breakfast was very good with lots of choice, e.g. muesli, fruit, English breakfast, Latvian specialities (mackerel), various kind of salamis and cheese, etc. The staff were friendly and attentive.

Overall, a nice hotel 10 minutes walk from the old town.

Room Tip: We stayed in the room 214 on the second floor of the new wing. It is probably not as sumptuous as th...

This converted period mansion is in an excellent location, and certainly has its charms. In the public areas on the first floor, where breakfast is served, there is a very pleasant bar and restaurant, and these are very nice, with shades of old world charm in the stucco and cornicework, some spectacular chandeliers and a very reasonably priced menu. The corridors are also rather well looked after, and well furnished. Less good was the room itself, which felt rather cramped and a bit basic for a 4star. The lobby should certainly be avoided: it feels like walking into a very large bathroom, and there is a casino/karaoke bar located here that appears to be frequented by unsmiling men who look rather menacing and serious. The sauna is fine, very large, and welcome after a day spent trudging through the Latvian snow. Staff were very friendly if a bit amateurish, though this was perhaps a very quiet time of year for them.
