Old City Boutique Hotel

Very nice hotel located in the old city. Rooms clean, not large by modern standards but well equipped and well maintained.
The room we stayed in didn't have a view ( brick wall) but lets face it most of your time should be out exploring the city anyway. The staff were brilliant, I was part of a Stag Party so we probably weren't the quietest, but they were always polite and look after a couple of us who had too much to drink. There is wifi in the rooms but it does depend which rooms you are in on the strength of it. Barman was brilliant, chatty, kept the alcohol flowing and advised us on the best places to go (both for food and for clubs).

We arrive at this hotel and we were quite pleased with our room (apart from the view but hey we didn't need a view much anyway) it was spotless and very modern all was great, breakfast was quite good the next day, but after the second day we found the earlier we went down the nicer it was.
The barman could been a bit more observant at night .
The staff were quite good and pleasant 80% of the time BUT the one major problem I had with this hotel was on our departure when I asked the girl at the front desk where would I get a taxi the handiest to go to the airport and to my delight she would ring a company that WE (the hotel)trust and she said take a seat and ill call you when it comes.
Now 15 mins later to my surprise a black Mercedes arrives and no sign of METER/TAXI SIGN/ID
NOTHING to relate to a taxi what so ever .But hey we got in as the hotel had called it I have to say I never felt so uncomfortable in any taxi/car in my life as I was in this one and thought we'd never get there and when we did finally it cost us DOUBLE the fair from the one we arrived in €20 now it wasn't anything to do with the money it was to do with TRUST and lets scam the tourist that's what annoyed me the most and I just want people to know don't get into a taxi unless its GENUNINE ..............

Room Tip: Get down early to the breakfast

Very pleasant hotel right in the heart of the old city of Riga. Staff pleasant. Small bar downstairs lovely place for a drink before going out for the evening.

Areas for improvement:
- no wifi in the rooms, only in the lobby/bar
- breakfast somewhat unimaginitive

That said, was a great break so happy to recommend.

Riga Old Town is a charming place to spend 2-3 days wandering around. The Old City Boutique Hotel is a modern hotel with all the modern amenities right at the edge of the old city. Given that Riga old town is easily navigated on foot, it's just really convenient. The Air Baltic Airport Transfer also stops right at the main road and one can walk to the hotel in less than 3 mins. The rooms are fairly small and the bathroom is also rather small. What got to me is that the hotel turns off the air-conditioning in the winter and there is only the heating going on. So the rooms can get rather hot and stuffy. The designing and the decorations of the rooms are nothing to shout about but it serves the needs.

The hotel staff are very helpful and provides maps and arrange for airport transfer. The lunch and dinner are also rather good. The breakfast area is usually quite full in the morning with high turnover of food but the spread is largely predictable and nothing too exciting. The coffee machine spout out coffee that is somewhat substandard, stick to the tea.

Free WIFI is available everywhere. The upside of this place is the proximity to the main shopping area, the bars and restaurants area.

Lovely, modern boutique hotel right in the middle of the town, close to bars, shops and museums/sights. I e mailed the hotel prior to our holiday to arrange for a taxi to pick us up from the airport, which they did and he was there waiting for us with a smart Mercedes. Taxis can be picked up at the airport but after a nasty experience in Rome I now prefer to use a company recommended by the hotel, you may pay more (17 euros) but at least you can be sure of a decent service. We also had the hotel arrange a return on departure and were collected in a Freelander 4x4 - very nice.
Room slightly on the small side but not as bad as some city hotels I have stayed in, free safety deposit box for our use and a nice size wardrobe although the room lacked drawer space. Windows overlooked a central courtyard so no view to speak of, room was very warm but the windows could be opened if you so wished.
Bathroom had underfloor heating and was a good size with a shower cubicle, although there was some mould on the shower tiles on the floor, the room was clean and there was lots of hot water. The usual soaps, shower gels etc were also provided together with a hair dryer in the bathroom.
Nice reception/bar area but the black floor and steps down to the front door could be an accident waiting to happen, although there is some (very) subdued lights on each tread.
Highly recommend the restaurant in house too.

Really enjoyed my 4 night stay at this centrally located hotel. The check-in was smooth and all staff were friendly and efficient. My room size was good and the breakfast was excellent. Try to go early as the breakfast room fills up quickly. The hotel is modern with some nice old original brick wall accents. The location could not be better; accessible by car but right in the center of the Old Town. All popular sites, shopping and restaurants are within a few minutes walk. The hotel has a few street parking spaces right in front of the hotel but I also found 24 hr parking garage a few feet from the hotel across the park at a very reasonable rate. I would definitely stay here again.
