Set in a pretty and spacious area, in undulating grassland and woodland, this museum contains many interesting buildings, illustrating what rural Latvian life was like 200-300 years ago.
The buildings include farmhouses, barns, threshing houses,a windmill and a beautiful wooden church.Museum workers dressed in traditional costume can be seen working at ethnic crafts.
A very interesting and pleasant place to spend 2-3 hours, just 20 minutes drive from Riga city centre.

The Earth Moans, a very impressive place to visit. A bit outside the city, but if you have a chance to visit, do it. Respect the grounds and silence. Remember what happened here and never let it happen again/

I have visited several open-air museums in different places, but Latvian Ethnographic Museum is my favorite. It's true that after a while all the loghouses begin to look similar. Here, however, at that point you can begin to admire the beautiful gardens, colorful flowers and well kept courtyards.

Nice place to walk and see some history, but do not expect too much from this. Easy to get on public tranportation.
