“GREAT LOCATION BUT NOTHING MORE”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 19, 2013

As a single traveller i choosed this place for it's location and reasonable rate. The hotel is great located just steps away from the airport busses and short walking distance to the Old City but that's all. I can't say staff were very friendly or helpful. My room was just average, nothing nice. If you are on budget you can chose this place for a short visit.

We chose this hotel for price and location. It was an inexpensive option within a short walking distance of all the sites. The hotel was very clean, and the staff friendly. It was also a five minute walk to a large grocery store, as well as a mall. There were several restaurants nearby as well. The breakfast was hot, and much more than continental. It was tasty.

Minuses are that the room was really small as we had a king size bed in a room made for a double, and there did not appear to be any air conditioning. It was quiet enough on the street with the windows open, but there wasn't much of a breeze.

Cannot ask for better in terms of location. Right by the bus station and train station and yet in the old square, this cannot be beat in terms of location. The hotel is a 3* at best. The rooms smelled a bit smokey, but opening the windows did the trick. Although that posed a different problem of noise, but thank god we were not here for the weekend. The music outside the window died down by 2 am and we feel asleep OK. The voices never did, but for the price we paid we cannot ask for everything. The central galleria is also right next door with all shopping easily accessible.

For a small hotel like this it is a rare pleasure to have encountered the staff being so responsive and helpful. Not in every 4 or 5 star hotel you'd find a service like this. This is a definite big plus.
There are certain minuses though, like dining room should have accommodated less tables and more food. Surprisingly, the impression from the farewell sandwich that we received as we were leaving early in the morning, was far better than that from the breakfast... Well, maybe I'm too picky about the food :)
Anyway, hotel is very good, rooms are very clean and quite spacious, so really recommended to those traveling to Riga for 1-2 days.

The location of the hotel was just perfect. It's only 400m away from the central bus and train station and 150m away from the A22 bus station to the airport. It's right on the limits of the old city and all the highlights are on a walking distance . Moreover, a mall and a supermarket (with grocery and bakery) is only 200m away. The room was clean and the breakfast o.k. . Nothing bad to mention .

The important features of this hotel are the location and the price! Service is ok, as other reviewer noted latvians do not have the same attitude to service as in other countries but the staff are nice and help you with what you need but do not expect anything extra.

The hotel is right on the edge of old town. There is a main road nearby, which you cannot cross, instead there is a tunnel system. If travelling to/from airport by bus, take number 22 - Stockmann stop is the closest, the stop to the airport is on the old town side of the main road, and from the airport on the other side (go through the tunnel under the main road to get to the old town and the hotel). Also on the other side of the main road is the train station for local trains (to Jurmala for example), the Finnish Stockmann shopping centre, Origo shopping centre - which has a large Rimi food store). The Central Market, which can be missed is also a few minutes away on that side. Very close to the hotel in the old town is also a large shopping centre Galerija Centrs with a lot of international brands both cheaper and more expensive.

Avoid the hotel breakfast, probably the worst I have encountered. Only with bread, cheese - but no butter(!?!) for example. There are lots of cafés nearby, which are very cheap al least compared to Sweden, where you can get a nice breakfast instead.

The hotel rooms are furnished with fairly new furniture with an old fashioned look, which is a pity - they would have benefited from a more modern look instead. But nice and clean, except from the carpet that seemed to have been in game for way too long and could use a change. Bathrooms are nice with large bathtub. Beds are a bit on the hard side, but I know that I am fussier than most concerning this :)

This is not a hotel for luxury or style - but is fantastic value for money!! I could absolutely stay there again if I go back to Riga and that says a lot coming from me :) I would recommend combining a trip to Riga with a few days in a spa hotel in Jurmala (I stayed at Spa hotel Jurmala which I highly recommend!). Spa hotels in Riga are quite expensive but very cheap in Jurmala!

Riga is not very internationalized, which is quite charming, but means that you will not find much info in English, but most people (at least younger ones) speak English somewhat and contrary to many other reviewers I found the Latvian people generally very happy to help if you a approach them with a genuine smile and a nice greeting (but I have a feeling that if you have a bad attitude they will not give you the time of day).

Room Tip: Remember to ask for a non-smoking room if you are not a smoker!

Excellent value for money. Right in the city centre and the staff are really lovely. Edgars on the reception desk was so helpful and organised a couple of trips for us and was always happy to help and offer advice for a night out. Would definitely stay here again!
