“great acoustics”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

St. John's Church claims to be the first in Rīga, that was written at the entrance. Its gothic spire is shorter than that of Rīgas Doms, which is nearby. But inside it is beautiful – austere and light, with a splendid cupola ornament and organ in the back gallery. It was the beginning of January and the church was elegantly decorated. We were lucky to be there when the organ was playing, though it was nor Sunday. The acoustics is really great!

“Nice medieval church with an interesting story”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

This church, first mentioned in chronicles in 1297 when it served as the chapel of a Dominican abbey, is very close to St Peter's. There is a small cross-shaped window in a side wall of the church. In the fifteenth century, two monks were bricked into the wall of their own will and lived out the rest of their lives there, with food passed to them through the cross-shaped window.
