The Dome still is one of the biggest churches in the Baltics, and is certainly not the prettiest, inside or out, but it is the Latvian Archbishop’s cathedral. The Riga Dome was the Livonian Order’s central cathedral until the disintegration of the Order in 1561. In the medieval period, the Riga Dome Cathedral was the largest and one of the oldest sacred buildings in Latvia and the entire Baltic Region. Inside, the ornate pulpit is amazing, and photos of it will include the best stained glass in the church. A surprising find is the interior courtyard, whose covered walkway is chock full of medieval cannons, mortars, and other armament.
