The Freedom monument in Riga stands tall and proud and it is a symbol of a country full of hope. There was a wreath-laying ceremony while we were there, as the Latvian Prime Minister received a visiting delegation, accompanied by military escort and band. The monument itself is well placed, on a wide street beside a public park, at a point where the old city starts to give way to the new.

This monument has many stories and has been renovated since original form.

Great location beside nice parks, city chanal, Laima Clock and Old city. Also National Opera is very near.

This monument is a symbol of freedom and independence of Latvia. It was unveiled in 1935 honouring the soldiers, that were killed during the Latvian War of Independence (1918-20).
It was also here that people started gathering wanting independence of the Sovjet regime in late 1980s. Today it serves as meeting point for public gatherings and ceremonies of Latvia.
