Owner description: This charming maze of narrow and crooked cobblestone streets is filled with a mixture of architectural styles including Nordic, Gothic, Renaissance, baroque and Jugendstil, plus such historic sites as the 13th-century Riga Castle, St. Peter's Church, the Swedish Gate and the Freedom Monument.

Riga's old town can be explored on foot. It offers a variety of things to see while enjoying a lovely walk through medieval alleyways and cobbled streets. It is a UNESCO's World Heritage Site.

Not to be missed:
- St. Peter's Church
- St. Mary's Dome Cathedral
- Art Nouveau buildings
- House of Blackheads and the Town Hall Square

We spent only half a day in Riga, but we enjoyed the stay all the time! It is beautiful historical city and now I understand, why was chosen for European Culture City 2014. Just walk through the city center and enjoy the atmosphere.

I liked this city better than Dubrovnik, which most people go on about, but Riga is spacious and not claustrophobic like Dubrovnik when full of tourists which, I believe, it usually is

Liked to transportation system for getting around. Liked the way they have their transport, markets and old town co-located.

Well worth strolling round, guide book in hand, and soaking up the atmosphere. There is so much to see and admire in terms of "solid" history but so much more "atmospheric add-on", in the form of street entertainment.
I particularly liked the organ and soprano rehearsing in a church and the group of musicians close to the Cat House (and the Brass Ensemble close to The House of the Blackheads)
Small cafes abound to provide refuelling stops.
It helped that the sun was shining.
