Nice atmosphere, too many tourist but can really help it. Restaurant nearby a bit on pricy side but otherwise ok. Nice old building all around.

Riga's Old Town is similar to those of Tallinn and Vilnius, but larger Riga has been a trading center for thousands of years. The Town Square is a charming 17th century scene with many good places to eat.

This place is located in the center of the old city and shows many old buildings around. Nice restaurants and cafes, great to walk around. Certainly one of the highlights in Riga.

This square is very pretty especially with the House of Blackheads. The fountain and the town hall certainly add to it, but I think that Dome Square near the Dome Cathedral is the prettiest square. That is magical. Both squares are pretty close to each other so definitely see them both and then you decide.

We spent only a few hours in Riga on our own on a rainy Sunday but found most of it charming and all of it interesting. The city square is beautiful, there are many food and beverage spots, some unique shopping including upscale jewelry and craft stalls with quality handmade items of clothing. We took the hop on hop off bus and stayed on for the whole loop. We only had the printed brochure to identify the sites but it was still interesting. There is need for some restoration there but the beauty and elegance of the city shines through.
