The best time to visit Town Hall Square is late in the afternoon (after 5:00pm) when the sun shines directly on the House of Blackheads and St. Peter's Church in the background - this is when you'll get the best picture. Sadly, all of the buildings around the square were destroyed in World War II so the Town Hall and Blackheads are complete new reconstructions. If you visit the History of Riga Museum near the Dome Cathedrathy pull find a series of photos showing the square pre-war and post-war which gives you a real sense of how it changed.

Riga suffered a great deal of damage during WWII, so most of the buildings in the city has been reconstructed using the building plans and pictures to recreate it. It stand majestically in the square where locals and tourist gather. Not to be missed.

Worth a small visit, mostly because of the House of Blackheads. It should be part of anyones old town tour as the heart of the old town.

Not an awful lot to the square but the most important stop would be at the Tourist Information shop which is directly facing the Townhall, everything you will need will be in there, stop and have a good look at the building housing the Tourist Shop it is pretty spectacular. You can book bus and walking tours from here, as you look around you will see a Black Building to the left hand side of the Townhall underneath it you will find a lot of information about the occupation of Riga by Nazis and Soviets.

It is heart of Riga. Place you must visit first. If you speak Russian you can take a guide there. Also it is a tourist bus stop nearby, so you can have 1 hour excursion of the city center and old town, also visit another part of Riga on other bank of river Daugava,
