The best time to visit Town Hall Square is late in the afternoon (after 5:00pm) when the sun shines directly on the House of Blackheads and St. Peter's Church in the background - this is when you'll get the best picture. Sadly, all of the buildings around the square were destroyed in World War II so the Town Hall and Blackheads are complete new reconstructions. If you visit the History of Riga Museum near the Dome Cathedrathy pull find a series of photos showing the square pre-war and post-war which gives you a real sense of how it changed.
