Owner description: The Museum of the Occupation of Latvia is an historic educational institution located in Riga, Latvia. It was established in 1993 to exhibit artifacts, archive documents, and educate the public about the 51-year period in the 20th century when Latvia was successively occupied by the USSR in 1940, then by Nazi Germany in 1941, and then again by the USSR in 1944.

Was not expecting or didn't realise how much has happened to the people and city in such a short time. It is a very good insight into the history and to see that it was still happening in our life time.

Free to enter, though a donation is asked for. Found it very interesting and some parts very sad. There is a lot of reading. Some exhibits are on show, though not many.

Well worth seeing to see what the people of Riga have endured especailly in the 20th century following the various invasions by Russian and German conquerors.

Took the guided tour. Well worth the 2lats we paid per person. The guide Edvards, was very knowledgable and presented the information in a sensitive and informative manner. This museum is a great way to begin to get to grips what Latvia went through in the 20th century. Well worth a visit.

I have been to Yad Vashem and the Holocaust Museum in Dc. This is a much smaller scale and only one floor but still captures the horrors of Latvian Jews, as well as the political turmoils of Latvia.
