“Don't miss this but allow plenty time.”

This museum has a meticulously curated account of the experience of Latvians during the German and Soviet occupations of the last 50 years. There is loads to see and read but you can also hire a portable audio guide. for 1 Lat. There is so much to take in and so many sad sad stories, the Latvian people are to be admired, especially when we learn that so many Russians still live in Riga, what a terrible legacy they left behind.

“Very interesting...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 22, 2013

I went there a couple of days back with my fiancee who's parents were both born in Latvia. We didn't realise the extent of the turmoil of the Latvian people, especially during the 1900's. We paid for a guide which was only 2Lats per person (very fair price), but you can walk around yourself. But the guide was very passionate about his country of Latvia, and it was worth the payment for the guide...

“Poor little Latvians”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2013

Tells a chilling tale of oppression by both Germans and Russians. Not a spectacular place by any means, but worth it to learn the history of the Latvian people and their country. A third of all the population have been killed in less than a century. Tragic.

“Information you can understand”

A balanced mix of information and interesting items to see and what is more important - a balanced view on the history. It was the best place I visited in Riga.
