“The most Stunning Building In Riga”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

House of Blackheads has been renovated and it is now in great condition.

In Hansa time Blackheads were running many cities and trade.

You can find influence of them in many previous Hansa cities, also elsewhere in Baltic counties like Tallinn.

Nice place to see and visit.

“This is where the Christmas Tree was created, allegedly.”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

This is where the tradition of the Christmas Tree originated from. The members of the Blackheads, locked, dragged a pine tree out, covered it in flowers and set it on fire.

“Beautiful Building, unfortunately currently no access inside”
Reviewed August 30, 2013

This beautiful building has a remarkable history going back to the 14th century, where it was home for unmarried German merchants in Riga. Due to their wealth the quality and look was quite astonishing and I understand that ornaments and other was added to the building in the centuries following.
The building was damaged during the second world war and after the war demolished by the Russians. In the 1990s it was reconstructed.
Note, that unfortunately their is currently not access to the building due to some repair work.

“A great sight”
Reviewed August 23, 2013

This is something that everyone sees in Riga. The detail of the front of the building is exquisite and when you have finished admiring the house you can see the many immediate local attractions. It is a shame that when I went to Riga, the Latvian President moved in to the House of Blackheads. So I never got to see if the inside of the house matched the outside.
