Very nice hotel and staff for an excellent location.

The rooms are confortable and quiet. Services offer a very good quality.

At least but not last, the restaurant is interesting too and persons of the hotel who serve are friendly.

About this beautiful city :

museums of occupation (free of charge) or museum of navigation are very " attractive " to discover history of the country.

City's architecture is wonderful. The Latvian Museum of Architecture located in one of the Three Brothers (the most old building in the city) and the jugend district (outside of the old city but not far)must be seen too.

Only one black point, just take care not to be in an unpleasant situation - some of local population can be " special ".

Last advice, don't change your money to the airport and the most important don't go to the first exchange office in the airport - big spread with the others - whatever the best solution is to use cash machine. You can find them everywhere in the city...

I was in this in hotel 3 years ago, so i decided to book because they had also "family rooms".

We were 8, the two rooms on 4th floor were terrible. 401 (the famiily room) and 405 are in the old part of the building. 405 has a huge wood wheel inside where you hit your head every time you turn around, or exit the toilet (well it is not a toilet is the smallest toilet i've ever seen, you can't put both hands inside the sink, you have to wash one after the other).

401 has a declining floor, so when you go to sleep your head is lower then your feet

Our room on 3rd floor was ok.

Also breakfast was not impressive (and it was always a fight to have some warm milk from the buffet)

Nice friendly hotel. It is in a great location in the centre for the old town next to the Dome Cathedral. Can be a bit noisy especially Friday and Saturday night with the street noise, but not that excessive
The breakfast was OK. I had one dinner there which was very good. Resident pianist!
Room was nice at bit cluttered, managed to accidentally break one of the lamps which they were Ok about
Staff were friendly and spoke good English don’t expect the “have a nice day’ attitude the staff are refreshingly honest.
Good value for money I would stay there again.

We stayed in this hotel for 5 nights. It has pleasant period decor. Rooms are a good size with tidy and functional facilities. Unfortunately ours lacked air-conditioning, but a fan was provided. Breakfasts were very good with a variety of choice. The staff were always friendly and helpful. It is ideally situated for the old town and walkable from the bus and train stations. There are many good restaurants nearby. It was useful to have a supermarket round the corner.

Stayed here only 1 night out of 3 in Riga but wished I had stayed for the entire 3 days. The room was very spacious and clean. The breakfast was very good and the staff was very helpful. The price was very reasonable. Unlike the other hotel we stayed in, there was no noise to keep us awake which is strange since the square where it is located is larger and busier than the other hotel.

The good comments posted by other reviewers are a reliable guide to this excellent hotel. Standards are high and attention to detail was evident everywhere. Few guests will be disappointed. The Terrace Restaurants was splendid, food is dear but you can just buy drinks and enjoy the views.

There are a few steps from the street to reception, and also from the lift to my room on the 4th floor. The room wasn’t large but was well appointed; spotlessly clean as was the bathroom. The shower worked well too. Breakfast, included in the room rate was of a good standard, fried eggs can be requested.

We choose to travel to the hotel by public transport, (few Gutenberg’s guests will do this!) on the no 22 bus which departs from the edge of the airport car park, just a couple of minutes walk from the airport exit. Journey time to close to the edge of the Old Town (bus stop Stockmann, easily identified) was about 30 minutes but on the outwards leg the bus was busy and we had to stand for some of the journey. From this bus stop it is about 10 minutes walk to the hotel using the underpass to cross the busy road. The cobblestones of the Old Town are quite tiresome however. The bus stop for the return journey is the opposite side of the road.

Its saves time and money to buy a 10 journey ticket from the Narvesen shop in the airport for just under 0.50 LVL per ride. Public transport in Riga is cheap, reliable, clean and very extensive, but initially somewhat confusing. Worth researching before travelling.

A more convenient but costlier option, whilst still avoiding taxis, would be the Air Baltic service to Hotel Riga, in one corner of the Old Town.

We hadn’t expected Riga to be such a lovely city, good restaurants/cafes/bars to suit all tastes and pockets, many museums, parks, gorgeous buildings, polite and attractive people. Don’t confine yourself just to the Old Town, so much to see elsewhere.

The “In Your Pocket” guide book, free at the Front Desk, or downloadable gave a huge amount of useful information about Riga.

Take stout shoes and good map and guide book.
