We booked the Maritim Park Hotel in Riga because we were invited to a Maritim Hotel Information evening. They were informing their good customers that some of their hotels have been renovated or newly opened. we have been in the Maritim Hotels in Magdeburg, Dresden, Fulda, Wurzburg, Germany. All of them were outstanding. From checking in at the reception greeting to the last day. We were pleased with the rooms, breakfast, dinner, service, and the checking out day.
In Riga the Maritim Hotel has the name but NOT the Quality expected. We were picked up with the shuttle bus serviced by the Hotel. When we arrived the receptionist at the desk had not even said "good morning" nor "did you have a good trip?" Something we have not experienced anywhere else as yet in a Maritim Hotel. Oh, by the way in case you do not know, the Maritim Hotel is a 4 star german chain hotel. My husband was neither greeted as dr......nor mr.... NO NAME was mentioned. Through our entire stay while passing by the receptionist....no smile....NADA!
THE ROOM...we had reserved was a superior double room. At the information evening we were told and they presented pictures of a RENOVATED hotel and rooms. well, we were very interested. then, we looked into the Internet and saw that they had very nice Pictures put in from the management. Our room was roomy but NOT at all like what we had expected from the pictures presented nor from this type of hotel. The style was still from the days when this was a Russian run hotel. From the wallpaper to the furniture. The bathroom was simple and not as in the pictures shown. I had no lamp on my night table. Barely decorated was the room. Okay, they left a bowl of fruits on the table. The curtains needed a little more material so that it darkens and that the morning sun does not peak through the sides.
The next day after we came back from breakfast and every day after that (we stayed 5 nights) the room had NOT been vacuumed neither in the bedroom area nor in the bathroom. How do i know this??? I saw my dark hair all over. They might had thought that because the bathroom had a speckled floor one does not see it. yeah, right. The towels were left UNDONE, hung the same way i left them after i used them. The small deco bed cover was never put back on after the beds were done. Ah, I must say that at least the bed and mattress seemed very new and yes...the floors seemed to have been cleaned at least when we first came in. phew! In Addition the used beer glass and can was not taken away from the night table.
Around the sink it was NOT cleaned. Only the sink itself. And, the shampoos etc., were not replaced only on demand. Although they had seen the empty little bottles. I did take pictures but unfortunately I am not the technical person which can attach the pictures onto this remark.
Also the mini bar was not refilled . Had to request it to be refilled. THANK YOU Mr. Richards for your understanding and sending the waiter immediately to the room.
The breakfast room was new. Also the bar and lounge area. All well and fine but my room was more important after a long day on tour. The breakfast buffet is okay. As i asked the young waitress if i could have an omelet she insisted on me eating the dry, wattery scrambled eggs. Obviously, she did not know what an omelet is. Super! Never EXPERIENCED THIS AT ANY OTHER MARITIM HOTEL. I said to her that i would be here 5 days and wanted something else. The omelet came tasting as if they took some of those scrambled eggs and added the ham, onions, peppers and cheese which i had told the waitress the ingredients anyway. Terrible...disappointed in the cook. From that day on i ate fried eggs. Can´t kill those. The Service was poor. The "young waiters and waitresses" have in my opinion not been trained to Service in this hotel. Or rather a hotel named MARTIM HOTEL. The plates were piling up on the table. And one has to go and get their own coffee or tea. No one is served. One morning we were put in a conference room for breakfast and there was pure CHAOS! No eating utensils were replaced and more.
The Bar. Good. The young lady who was there most of the time...great!
What was positive....hmm....the tram outside in front took us in to the Center of the City for only 0.5 lats per person one way. It came every 5 minutes. Was very good and ran until around 11 pm.
Mr. Richards at the reception desk had tried to help us check in our flight through the Internet with all his means but was not able because he also learned then that the Baltic Airline desk closed at 10 pm. THANK YOU ANYWAY, you were the only helpful, friendly person.
I wrote to the Lady we met at the Information evening in Munich on the second day appealing for her help....never heard from her again. Thank you!
I have to sum this up. All in all Riga itself is worth visiting and there are several Radisson Blu Hotels in the area which at least look new and nice. I must say that i do not understand some of the comments i have read regarding this Maritim Riga Hotel unless they are travellers who think it was so great because they have not really experienced better Hotels or the other Martim Hotels in Germany. In one comment regarding this hotel written from another traveller the hotel Manager wrote back stating that the Quality there in Riga...so quasi...a 4 star is a 3 star Quality was his example. No, I do not agree with this statement. You Do Not put a BMW Emblem on a car in Riga...sell it and service it there like a cheap car. It should not lose ist Quality. It HAS TO function like a BMW. This is as always our opinion and an honest opinion. Believe me.....
