We were really pleased to stay at this lovely hotel. It has very good location, right in the Old Town. The hotel itself looks luxury, it is real pleasure to be there. Our room was very large and well furnitured. Personel is welcome, and speaks different languages. Breakfast was not various, but it was tasty. I would recomend this hotel for pleasant stay in Riga!

If you prefer to stay in the Old City (and who doesn’t?), this is the obvious up-market choice. The Grand Palace combines old-fashioned decor and values (e.g. efficient, polite and friendly service) with modern facilities (e.g. a computer in each bedroom). We had a deluxe room on the top floor which, though not huge, was the height of elegance. All the usual five-star amenities were there (except for tea/coffee-making facilities which are a rarity in this part of the world), and it was serviced twice a day. Breakfast is exceptional by any standards. In addition to the usual items, there is a magnificent selection of smoked and cured fish, meats and cheeses. A friendly chef will cook eggs to order, and her omelettes are excellent. Freshly-made pancakes are also on offer, and even sparkling wine! During the day, the terrace bar is a great place to relax, as the road is generally quiet, even though you are only two minutes from the cathedral square. In the evenings, the bar is comfortable and welcoming, with a huge drinks menu, and snacks are available till late. The Suite restaurant usually seemed very quiet, probably as there are so many good (and cheaper) dining options nearby, so we gave it a miss. There is a small gym, sauna and steam room (all free) and massage is top quality and not expensive by UK standards. You can also enjoy three types of ‘butler bath’ in your room (don’t ask!). The staff are the hotel’s strongest asset, and seem genuinely keen to make your stay memorable. In short, this hotel is impossible to fault, and thoroughly deserves its reputation.

Room Tip: The deluxe rooms are worth the extra cost

Excellent place for a quiet few nights. We stayed 4 nights and enjoyed each one. Staff were great, particularly Victor who was most helpful from making the reservation to organising transfers to giving us directions. Rooms were very comfortable, restaurant great, good variety and choice for breakfast and a very comfortable bar to end the day.

A superb truly luxury boutique hotel which is almost impossible to fault.

The staff impress at every contact and seem determined to graciously to welcome and accommodate you (most notable was the charming front desk gentlemen of Portugese origin although every member of the team from the transfer driver to concierge delivered top class service ).

As other reviewers have commented the Grand Palace is perfectly located in the old city.

Each time you walk back into this truly grand hotel you feel very special and favoured in life to be a guest.

It is also refreshing the hotel actually caters for both smokers and non smokers in a non nanny state manner.

In short the iconic hotel provides a reason on its own to return to this fabulous city.

I am staying at 150+ hotels per year in all corners of the world. I have stayed at many hotels in the Baltics and in Russia - but when it comes to service, Grand Palace Hotel is top-class. All the staff working at the hotel greets you with a warm smile every time you step into the small lobby. The hotel itself is very nice decorated with superb location in middle of Old Town in Riga. Its worth its price!
