Met Angeles and his partner in front of St. Peter's church at noon. Two tours offered, one of Old Town and one of the City Center. I chose City Center, which was fun and informative, taking in the Central Market and the art deco area of Riga. Angeles was knowledgeable and fun and told us lots of interesting stories and facts about Riga. But be warned - it's 2 1/2 hours walking on cement and asphalt, without a real rest or break, so not for the lazy or out-of-shape. But definitely worth the time. Angeles accepts donations at the end of the tour.

I was fortunate to take 2 of the trips - one to old town with Bob and other alternate tour with Angeles.
Old town trip was very good. With BOB as our advisor, it was a fun trip. She gave lot of details about Riga /Latvia which one would otherwise never know. It was truly Riga from a Latvians view. Totally loved it. She was very helpful and patiently helping every one to all directions. She infact walked up with me to show the central market.

Great job done by the duo.

We met at noon near the church for the free walking tour of Riga. Two guides were there, one to take people through Old Town, and one to lead an "alternative" tour of less touristy areas. We, being tourists, went with the Old Town tour and our group was led by a witty girl who said to just call her "Bob" (because her name was too Latvian for any of us to get it, haha). She led us on a 2 1/2 walk through the city that was fun, entertaining, and very informative. I enjoy quick city overviews like this because of all the random facts & tidbits you'd never read in a guidebook or learn walking around on your own! Bob was about 2 days post-breakup with her boyfriend, and periodically interrupted the history of Riga with hilarious updates & commentary like "he just texted me I REALLY LIKE YOU, DOT DOT DOT". But in terms of facts & history, she really knew her stuff!! The beauty of the Old Town area contrasted with the fact that it's essentially dying, economically and population-wise. So we were left with a bit of a bittersweet feeling after our tour, but we were happy to get an honest insight into the lives of real residents and not just a glossy tourist snapshot. Gratuities are accepted at the end of the tour, and our gift was a small price to pay for such a memorable experience.
Great tour because a lovely city was introduced to us by such a sharp-witted girl! Thanks, Bob, (hope your love life's on the upswing!)

This free walking tour of Riga is great, especially if Bob happens to be your tour guide! She's smart, sarcastic and hilarious. Wear comfortable shoes as you'll be on your feet for 2-2.5 hours. All in all it's a good way to see some places in Riga outside of Old Town, and to learn about Riga and Latvia from a local who is free to speak his or her mind.

Took the tour on a nice, sunny day while staying one day in Riga. Bob was a good guide. She managed to reduce the extremly big group to a good size in a very humoristic way (don't think everybody got that^^). The tour was all around the area south of the Old Town - The big marked, Stalins birthdaycake and many more things. A lot of good informations, and a perfect opportunity for a city planner to see the areas of the city where there is all kind of developement and that is not the Dineyland called Old Town.

Warmly recommend this tour! It's on tipps-basis. So if you don't like it, you don't have to pay the guide. :-)
