I've marked it 'average', merely because I have no other hotels in Riga for comparison. It's bright, efficient, clean, and seems well-located.
The downsides are the bar, which is in the lobby and thus too public for a tête-a-tête, and the smokers' room, which is tatty, and furnished, it would seem, with the stuff thrown out of all other rooms as unfit for human bottoms. Possibly the management is anti-smoking...in which case why bother with a glassed-off room for the sinners at all?
Breakfast is same-old-same-old buffet...BUT, I chatted to the charming lady who was frying eggs to order, and she made me cream cheese pancakes and crispy bacon. She is a gem, and should be promoted to hotel manager forthwith, merely for understanding what service actually IS.
Riga seems to be in its infancy as far as tourism is concerned. No doubt this is one of the first faltering steps. The town would be perfect for a small boutiquey hotel, with character...no doubt someone has this in hand.

Room Tip: Get a suite!

I chose this hotel because of its location on the "belt" outside the historic city centre, as I was travelling by rental car and wanted to avoid having to drive into the centre (which by the way to a certain extent is not even allowed if you don't live there). It's opposite the main railway station, so easy if you want to move around by train. If you arrive by air and take a taxi to town, then I would recommend taking a nicer hotel in the centre, so that you avoid the 20 minute walk from the Talinn Hotel to the nearest sight.
Overall the hotel is brand new and has good facilities, though the sauna and jacuzzi (which I didn't use) were in the basement next to the parking, so not very attractive. One major minus is that the use of the parking lot (reservation required and costs 10 EUR per night) is not so obvious as it is accessed through an elevator which needs to be operated by the hotel staff. If there is a cue at the reception, then you might have to wait for 15 minutes before anybody arrives to operate the elevator - not really efficient if you ask me. Parking is not easy overall, because of the very narrow spaces and there are pilars everywhere. So you might want to take your limo somewhere else :)
My standard room was small but well-equipped, clean bathroom with good shower, and everything in working order.
Breakfast is ample and varied: a real plus.
Too bad for the unfriendly and inefficient staff, though that seems to be the norm in Latvia.

I spent 4 days in july in Riga and i have to say that Tallink Hotel is perfect as logistic and position. 100 mt from Origo Station 5 mins walking to Kalku Iela in Old Riga, 5 minutes far from everything in the center. I appreciated the style, the taxi service from and for airport, kindness of people and breakfast very comprehensive. Only about wireless connection i could say something. In my room not very good connection, maybe for the position of the room but, it can't happens that in such an hotel like this. Room was ok, right for me, modern and clean. Definitely if i should come again to Riga i could come back there.

Dear Dora A,

Thank Your for staying at Tallink Hotel Riga on Your recent trip to Riga and for taking the time to share your review on Tripadvisor.com!
Although we are proud with our modern design created by Meelis Press, we were still able to maintain historical facade of the building created in 1897 by Latvian architect Karlis Felsko.
So I’am sure that Tallink Hotel Riga is great combination of both worlds – touch of history and modern unique design elements!
Once again thank You for great feedback and hope to welcome You back in Tallink Hotel Riga in the near future!

Sincerely,
Anastasija Muzira

We had a perfect weekend at Tallink Hotel in Riga. We thought it´s just a good place to stay for two nights but it turned out to be one of the best hotels we have ever been...

The service was very friendly and helpful...not just the reception, also the cleaning lady and room-service!
As we were travelling with 4 children we decided to have a quick lunch at the hotel restaurant...again VERY nice service and excellent food...and wine!

First-class hotel for affordable price!!!

THANK YOU!
