“Excellent location”
Reviewed January 31, 2014 via mobile

Stopped here five nites end of January
The weather was -15 this was not a problem as hotel and rooms well heated
Room was spacious with nice shower in bathroom ( no bath)
It's location was excellent within 100 yards each way are six bars and 1221 restaurant (see separate review) we experienced no problems with noise or rowdiness but that is down to the bars rather than the hotel
I would strongly recommend this hotel if you don't want to walk to far to pubs restaurants and attrractions

Hotel Justus was quite perfect for us. Right in the heart of the Old Town, but with a room at the back we not bothered by any noise from the street or nearby bars. Our room ( a superior double) was a good size with an exceptionally comfortable bed, a great bathroom with large walk in shower with lots of hot water and a powerful shower jet. Pictures on the walls, a Tiffany lamp and various tasteful furnishings made it look cosy and welcoming. More storage would have been welcome - there were no drawers apart from two small ones in the wardrobe. As. Brit, breakfast was a bit odd - lots of salad, fish, cheese etc which was clearly appreciated by the mostly Northern European clientele, but the nod to the English cooked wasn't great - slimy undercooked bacon, pale sausages and overdone scrambled egg. But there was muesli and fruit so I coped.

Just spent nice few days in Riga, Selected Hotel based on value for money & location and was not dissapointed. Hotel was quaint but nice. Furnished to a 4* standard. Rooms were comfortable and fairly spacious. Only critism was breaklfast which was poor, lack of selection and each day was the same. Arriving for breakfast at 9.00am always found a shortage of plates, cups and a few empty food containers. The lacation could not be bettered as it right in the middle of the 'Old Town' so absolutly everything is walkable.
Riga is really nice a pretty city which was enhanced whilst we were there by a lot of snow. We went for Christmas markets which were dissapointing being more like craft stalls with tinsel!!. Riga is a small city so 3 days is propably the maximum.

Room Tip: we had three superior rooms and there were all good

I rarely get enthusiastic about hotels but this place is really worth it.

The hotel is right in the heart of the old town of Riga, which makes moving around extremely easy, and the building fully reflects the spirit of the town, decoration being carefully chosen both in the rooms and in common spaces.

Rooms are clean and the breakfast offers a little bit of everything. As for the wi-fi, I faced absolutely no problem even on the 5th floor.

The manager and staff were really helpful and communication via email with them - before arrival - was easier than ever.

That was the second time I stayed at Justus Hotel and, when I find myself in Riga again, Justus will certainly be my first choice.

PS. If travelling to Riga by plane they can also book a taxi for you or their special VIP transfer service for a fee that is rather affordable. We tried the latter, as we were a group of 6 people arriving at midnight and leaving at 4 am, and I can certainly recommend it.

Lovely, traditional, clean hotel centrally located in the old part of the city. We booked a standard double which was large, clean and most importantly warm - essential in December! Staff were especially friendly, helpful and welcoming. There was plenty of choice at breakfast to suit every taste, and the food was topped up at regular intervals, so there was plenty foor even the latest down to breakfast! Our room was on the 5th floor and we had no problem whatsoever with the WIFI, nor any noise from outside as others have reported, despite the room facing out onto the street.
I would recommend Hotel Justus and would definitely stay there again should I ever return to Riga

A centrally located hotel steeped in history. Nicely appointed, right in the centre of town, yet in a quiet location. Friendly and helpful staff. Cannot rate breakfast as I hadn't had any.

Only downside: My room (314) had a leak after a heavy downpour, with water running down the wall, and despite me asking I wasn't given an alternative room. Water and carpet aren't a good combination, so the last three nights of my stay weren't exactly pleasant.

In general, however, I can recommend staying there. It's ideal for a city trip of Riga, but make sure you get a room that has more light than the single room I had.

Room Tip: The single rooms face the back of the hotel. Relatively little light enters. No big deal when you...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Four-star boutique Hotel Justus is located in the very of the old town of Riga, literally a few steps away from the famous Dome cathedral, within the architectural area protected by UNESCO as a part of world heritage. The immaculate renovation of the historical building was completed by April 2009, and so today the authentic facade conceals 45 cosy rooms uniquely designed to embrace the charm of genuine brickwork combined with fascinating art objects, antique as well as contemporary. Personalised service matched with attractive pricing policy makes Hotel Justus of great interest for a wide range of guests. The hotel’s site possesses high historical value, since it was part of the plot of land selected by Bishop Albert as the location for his Baltic residence back in 1210. However, the medieval wooden housing was destroyed by the fire in the 17th century, so the architectural ensemble comprising Jauniela Street today dates back to the 18th century. The facade of the hotel itself underwent the last major alteration in 1874. The building hosted a tavern in the early 19th century that was later replaced by typography and lithography services, in the 20th century it was occupied by artisan workshops, pharmaceutical laboratories, and then a cinema gallery and offices. Charms of architecture and historical atmosphere made this place a favourite shooting spot of Soviet movie-makers. Now the hotel belongs to a small group of friends that has spotted an empty run-down building and revived it with artistic energy.Idea of making restaurant Aleks comes from the simple desire to enjoy Riga of the beginning of the previous century. Interior is made from the household items of those times, which gives the restaurant unique look. ... more   less
