Arrived at Hotel Justus and booked in. A very unique entrance and foyer. Full of artefacts and interesting scripts on walls. Room was a standard-twin-beds adequate for 4nts, clean,no wifi service, and only CNN on tv in English.Drinks fridge-used for water, air-con good and room quiet. Got extra pillows promptly. 4th floor facing a side street.Lifts never busy. For longer stay I would like larger room. Breakfasts just alright- good porridge - and omelettes made to order. Staff rarely smiled-just quietly got on and if requested assisted you.Was busy in breakfast room-shared tables a couple times. A very welcome pot of tea made for me 1 night by a very nice member of staff and on morning of departure before breakfast-time, a pot of tea made while waiting for taxi. Little things that you remember. All in a very interesting hotel-no two areas the same.

This is a lovely hotel located in the center of the old town of Riga. close to the Cathedral and many good restaurants.

The hotel has a nice atmosphere - rustic rooms with exposed brick - lovely shower - clean, well kept.

Only minus: could not get a late check out although the hotel was not busy.

Very noisy room and wi-fi connection not available. Front office not enough professional and not able to meet customers needs or solve their problems. Breakfast too standard for a 4 stars rated hotel. Amazing position in downtown Riga and very interesting structure, but it does not worth the price. If you want or have to go there, make sure to get a room on the rear or be provided with ear plugs. I definitely would not recommend it.

Oh my god! Booked this hotel way in advance and I hadn't read carefully what other travelers said.
Got a room on the front, I could have never imagined that I would have spent two nights (Fri. and Sat.) with no sleep. Some discoes nearby kept playing till 5 AM and drunk guys were screaming outside of the hotel. Terrible experience. They had no rooms on the courtyard. Will not be back for whatever reason.

Great hotel with a fantastic location. On a lovely, quiet and stylish street just behind the Dome Square which is one of the main squares. Short walking distance to all major sites. Lovely staff who are very helpful. The hotel has a very quirky feel about it with fun decor. The room we had was spacious with high ceilings but quite basic in furnishings which suited us just fine. The bathroom was also very spacious with a nice shower and had all the facilities of a 5 star hotel. Room wifi was ok but not the best as it kept dropping off but mostly good and free of charge. The breakfast was plentiful and there was a lot of choice but it was not the best quality (sound very spoilt!) but good enough really. Had a nice stay. Highly recommend the hotel and would stay here again.

We had a relatively late flight into Riga so treated ourselves to a Baltic taxi to the hotel - much quicker than bus 22 but does cost 8 Lats! The receptionist was friendly and helpful, also there is a small bar open later in the evening.

I have to reiterate other reviews, the hotel is magnificantly positioned in terms of proximity to the city centre, in fact, one of the old cathedral walls makes up one of the walls of the hotel.

We had a twin room on the first (Latvian second) floor overlooking the street. Room itself was very good, bathroom was spacious and well designed, beds were comfortable, plenty of room. We didn´t explore the televisión or the wi-fi. The Street outside is cobbled, this meant that we could hear every vehicle that went up the Street (not so many during the night). There is definitely an issue with pedestrian noise - specifically people who have had a rather good night out - and even I, who can sleep through nearly everything, was woken several times. If you are a light/easily irritated if woken up a lot sleeper, a Street side room will not work for you at all. It wasn´t a problem for us as we were only there for one night.

Breakfast was a lot more diverse than these reviews led me to believe. There were not so many bread products and perhaps the omelette was too thick and bland for my preference, however, there was cereal, cooked, fruit and yogurt as well as vegetables, salads, chicken wings and some other ítems. I thought it was perfectly satisfactory.

The reception staff continued to be particulaly helpful and friendly the second day and we were able to leave our cases in the luggage room whilst we went sightseeing. We actually then needed to return to the airport before going on, the walk to the 22 bus stop takes around ten minutes and pulling a case across Riga cobbles is quite interesting, the cobbles being more bumpy than in most European cities.

I would definitely stay in this hotel again and I will definitely recommend it, as I liked its design and atmosphere and found the staff very good. I would, however, forewarn anyone about the almost guarenteed disturbed night if sleeping on the Street side of the hotel.

Room Tip: Not too close to the cobbles if you can!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Four-star boutique Hotel Justus is located in the very of the old town of Riga, literally a few steps away from the famous Dome cathedral, within the architectural area protected by UNESCO as a part of world heritage. The immaculate renovation of the historical building was completed by April 2009, and so today the authentic facade conceals 45 cosy rooms uniquely designed to embrace the charm of genuine brickwork combined with fascinating art objects, antique as well as contemporary. Personalised service matched with attractive pricing policy makes Hotel Justus of great interest for a wide range of guests. The hotel’s site possesses high historical value, since it was part of the plot of land selected by Bishop Albert as the location for his Baltic residence back in 1210. However, the medieval wooden housing was destroyed by the fire in the 17th century, so the architectural ensemble comprising Jauniela Street today dates back to the 18th century. The facade of the hotel itself underwent the last major alteration in 1874. The building hosted a tavern in the early 19th century that was later replaced by typography and lithography services, in the 20th century it was occupied by artisan workshops, pharmaceutical laboratories, and then a cinema gallery and offices. Charms of architecture and historical atmosphere made this place a favourite shooting spot of Soviet movie-makers. Now the hotel belongs to a small group of friends that has spotted an empty run-down building and revived it with artistic energy.Idea of making restaurant Aleks comes from the simple desire to enjoy Riga of the beginning of the previous century. Interior is made from the household items of those times, which gives the restaurant unique look. ... more   less
