I had my birthday dinner there and all my guests were realy happy about the place, both as atmosphere and as for the food, typical Latvian food, never tasted before but pretty good.

this was the menu:

Contemporary Latvian Menu offer

Appetizer
Līcīši goat cheese with tomato jelly, arugula cream,
seasonal vegetables and spring sprouts

Appetizer
Cream of crawfish soup with dill dumplings and nettle oil

Main Course
Butter-fried sturgeon fillet with pearl barley, spinach,
pak choi and beurre blanc sauce

Main Course
Pork roast with parsnip purée, root vegetables and celery demi-glace sauce

Dessert
Terrine of dark-rye ambrosia with lingonberry sorbet

Coffee, tea
Mineral water San Benedetto
Homemade bread rolls with butter

everything was excellent but the dessert, it was not on the same level of the food, or may be i don't like Latvian sweets...

the overall experience was VERY GOOD

We listed the Lonely Planet eating recommendations in the centre of Riga and walked past each one. Several had closed or vanished but Kalku Varti remained. We confirm the advice we were given that Kalku Varti operates a smart restaurant - and a more casual bistro. We ate in the bistro - which has a substantially similar menu - and took a table outside - good for "people-watching". The food was excellent ("Latvian cooking in the modern idiom" would be the best description) and the service reasonably attentive.

We liked the food so much we would have returned the following night - but were in the wrong part of the city and found somewhere else to explore!

Great menu, lovely fish. Smoked eel was great starter, grilled tuna some of the best I've ever eaten. Lovely presentation, very good wine list and not some good, not shockingly expensive, imported wines.

Decor is lovely, service very professional. Really nice place. Recommended

When we entered the restaurant we were met with kindness and professionalism. The restaurants atmosphere was good.
It has a chill decoration, a little bit business class lounges feeling, but only the positive side of it.
We were six persons and got a spacious round table, white linen. We started with a drink. The Mojito was medium in both presentation and taste, the Margarita was perfect (5 lvl ~10$ each).
The menu had enough dishes to choose among, also vegetarian, wine list good enough for a non pro.
After some thought we choosed the chefs menu, a 4 course dinner (20 lvl ~ 38$).
Since none of us is expert in wine we asked if the menu was followed by a wine menu, the answer was no, a bit disappointing. We then coosed a white and a red, a German Riesling and a Rioja. (32 lvl ~ 60$ each)
The service from the staff was good, they gave us the attention we needed, maybe because it was not fully booked this evening?
Firs taste was from the chef, thanks!
The food was presented nice. The taste was good, it was not perfect but among the better we have got for a long time. Compared to price and service this was a real positive experience. We will come back and we recommend this restaurant.
