“Not the best location, but helpful multilingual staff and a great price.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2012

Spent a night at Riveraide Hotel with my father on a cross-Baltic drive/vacation. Price was the chief motivator and Riverside does not disappoint. Our total was around $45 for a twin room, guarded parking and a pot of tea (room service). The location is about a mile away from Old Town and you have to walk through a rather drab, back-of-the-railway-station area or take public transport to get there.

The room itself is small but well-appointed for a budget hotel. The three stars are definitely one too generous as there isn't a mini-fridge in the room and the hotel lacks an elevator which can be very family-unfriendly as the only twin rooms are on the fourth floor. The hotel advertises a sauna and hot tub but they aren't free and are rather pricey at around $10-15 per use. The reception staff is friendly and speaks English and Russian well.

If you're a budget-oriented traveler and don't mind being a bit off the beaten path, you will do just fine, but I wouldn't recommend the hotel if you're after even slightly above-average luxury.

Riverside hotel is located about 15 mins walk from the centre of Riga, which is perfect as you are close enough to the action but far enough to get some sleep! The hotel was clean and comfortable and the room (double) was large with an excellent shower. There is limited free parking and the supervised parking across the road is very cheap. The staff are the best thing about this hotel. On checking in the receptionist was very helpful in giving us a map, drawing the route to town and pointing out a couple of interesting places. The other receptionist (black hair, I'm so sorry I never got her name) is fantastic. When I was ill on my trip and needed to see an English speaking doctor on the Latvian national holiday she went above and beyond and found me a clinic 15 mins away. She also took the time to write out specific driving instructions as the route was a little complicated. If we are in Riga again Riverside will be our first choice.

Room Tip: If wifi is really important to you ask for a room closer to reception - our room was at the end and...

A modern and clean hotel just outside the City Centre. Quiet location with friendly and helpful staff. Room was basic but spacious and bed was comfortable. Bathroom was very clean. I chose the hotel based on previous reviews because I wanted sometwhere a little quieter than the City Centre which thankfully it was. Bedroom overlooked a car park and it is about a 10 to15 minute walk (or 5 minute bus ride from a stop just around the corner - only costs about 70p) to the City Centre but we walked it easily several times during the day and even late at night with no problem. I enjoyed our stay there and it was very good value for money. Would happily recommend it to anyone who wants a very reasonable rate hotel in a quieter location and doesn't mind a short walk to the city centre.

Enjoyed a nice 3 night stay in a twin room at this hotel. The rooms and communal areas were clean, fresh, and well maintained.
I contacted the hotel via email before arrival to see if we could drop bags there before our room was available at 2pm. They replied back very promptly that that would be no problem. In fact the room was available when we arrived at midday and so we could go straight in.
The reception staff were friendly and helpful and we soon had a city map and a few choice phrases in Latvian written down for us.
The room was not big, but it was clean and the beds were comfortable (we asked for an extra pillow each). The bathroom was nice with a power shower, small soaps and shampoo were provided. The bedroom has a flat screen TV with a variety of channels in various languages (only English channel was BBC World - but who goes away to watch TV?).
There was no tea/coffee making facilities in the room but 24hr room service is available - black coffee is 0.90 Lats, milky coffee 1.0 Lat. Sandwiches and food also available at reasonable prices. Breakfast is available downstairs some room tarriffs include breakfast others don't so check. We didn't have breakfast included we were told it would be 3.5 Lats extra, but we eat out so don't know what it was like.
Location was about 10 mins walk from central markets and another 5 mins into old town. We walked it there and back a couple of times a day with no problem. If you are not as fit then you can always catch a bus (0.7 Lats) / journey.
Overall enjoyed our stay and would be happy to recommend this hotel to people who are happy with the walk or the bus.

This hotel’s biggest plus is its terrific price-quality ratio. We paid a mere 27 euro per night, breakfast included. No complaints about the very clean room. Since the hotel is located in some kind of alley, there’s no street noise.

Breakfast (hot and cold, i.e. pancakes, egg, rice, different kinds of bread, fruit & vegetables,…) was varied and tasty.

On the downside, the hotel’s in the Moscow district, which isn’t quite the prettiest or most enjoyable district in town, with its fair share of sketchy looking individuals. There’s a trolley bus nearby though, that goes to the station and to the old town. If you go on foot, it’s a 20’ walk to the (adorable) heart of Riga.

Small hotel. From the map seems like close to the centre but you will not want to walk since the surroundings do not look safe in the evening and it would be really uncomfortable walking along the street with high traffic and no space for pedestrians. We got a room on the ground floor and with view to the public parking place - it was noisy during the night. Hotel needs more care as it seems more worn than in the photos. We went to the sauna which was one of the most pleasant things in the hotel. Poor breakfast.

We visited Riga as a group of four to celebrate my 30th birthday, and ordered two double rooms to a very affordable price. From the moment we came to the hotel to the moment we left we were cared for in an excellent way, both service from the reception and service from the cleaning staff were top of the line. We did not take advantage of the hotel breakfast regularly, but always had the opportunity to order this from the reception. Room service is also available 24/7 to a very affordable price and good quality. I got a birthday breakfast delivered to the room by kind members of the staff, and enjoyed every bit of it. The hotel is not too far from the Old Town, a 15 minute walk through the former Jewish quarter of town. Shabby buildings in this neighbourhood, but this new hotel (built in 2008) is kind of an oasis. No troubles with locals in any way, and since public transportation is extremely available from this location there were no trouble getting to the farther places of Riga from this position. No trouble sleeping, as there were no noise from traffic or others, very good soundproofed rooms. Large windows (in 2nd floor, just a little smaller in the other floors) that were able to be opened for outside air, and an effective air conditioner with many settings were also available. Sauna in the basement floor, also this to an affordable price. A very good stay, no drawback, so I can recommend this hotel to anyone.
