“Ideal place to stay”
Reviewed May 23, 2013

This is a really lovely hotel, and felt luxurious without the big price tag ! The only thing lacking for me was tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The staff were very helpful and friendly. And the spa is gorgeous, so relaxing. I really enjoyed my stay and would definitely come back, the location is ideal.

Room Tip: Choose an ac room in the summer, and a higher floor would probably be quieter

Stayed with my husband for a long weekend in Riga. The hotel is very central for the old town with lovely views out over the park. The opera house is close and so is freedom monument .
The hotel organise airport transfer for 12 Lvs which is more than worth it. Check -in was smooth and the room was luxurious ( had upgraded to a superior suite so we could make use of the spa facilities without further charge). Our room was lovely however no air-conditioning !!!! (Room 323) must be unbearable in mid summer ! Also the lack of tea / coffee making facilities was noted. The bed was huge , comfy and had 2 single quilts ..perfect for a good nights sleep .

Breakfast was good , the usual European fayre - cereal , yogurt , cold meats , croissants , toast , egg, bacon and sausages . Coffee was good and staff were attentive , replenishing the food often . We didn't eat in the evening at the hotel ... But did eat twice at akhtamar's ( Armenian restaurant at the rear of hotel on the parallel road ) great food and really reasonable price in a lovely setting with live music at weekends.

The spa in the hotel was lovely and peaceful ..until the kids descended ! ( kid -friendly times / hours would be beneficial ) -who wants to be drifting off on a heated chair sipping mint water , after relaxing in the steam room , sauna and tranquil pool .. To be rudely awoken by screaming kids ? It really isn't a kiddy type of pool or environment ..

Riga is a lovely, vibrant city .. We packed our days with sightseeing and walking and looking around the huge market at the side of the hotel and shopping in the huger than huge shopping centres attached to the station . We rested in the sunny square bars of kalku varti with a beer and watched the world go by. We ate like kings in restaurants and then in the evening drank in the bars till 1am , we sat outside some bars and wrapped ourselves in blankets to keep warm . The atmosphere was brilliant . There were stag do's around but all seemed quite well behaved. We would recommend Riga ( the old town ) and definitely the opera hotel. We found riga to be reasonably priced. Beer on a par with UK prices , but we ate out very cheaply . Museums were free to get into and the view from the top of St Peters was wow !

The hotel is pretty average, the room is really small (its called "cozy room" which I guess should presume its super-small). The shower is really crap - there is just a shower in the bathroom's wall with all water going on the floor where you are later standing. No room temperature regulator as well.
No coffee making, no ironing facilities (even though the guy from the reception brought the iron quite promptly, hence the hotel is getting 3 stars and not 2).
On the breakfast often there are not enough tables, and they constantly run out of juice. The selection isn't bad though.

Overall, its ok for couple of nights, but there are lots of areas for improvement. For the price requested, the room was crap - small and uncomfortable.

Room Tip: Do not book "cozy room" - small, uncomfortable, and you'll have water everywhere in ba...

The hotel and our spacious suite was very clean and comfortable. Convenient location of the hotel. Staff at the hotel was very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was average, but good. Since we travelled in February we really enjoyed the floor heating in the bathroom.

Spa: Brilliant little and delicate spa in the basement. Relaxing atmosphere with welcoming and attentive staff. The facial treatment I had was pure heaven. The ladies changing room was small, but really lovely.

Good location- close to train/bus station, can walk to any part of old town

Convenient- two department stores nearby, we could walk to the town market (lovely buildings)

Good facility:
clean, good size room, comfort bed, we really like the wooden floor and beam.
There is an old lift, we use it too, give a nice feeling that we are in old building, old town

Spa- It is decent with warm bench, sauna, steam room and very small relaxing pool. It is equipped with changing room, robe, towels, with healthy drinks.

Breakfast- (see pictures) we like breakfast -the room and selection with good quality- salmon and herrings, good salad bar, cheese, cold cuts, three types of yogurt, fruits, eggs, sausage, bacon--really good. My son travelled by himself from Holland, stopped by for breakfast here last month and liked it very much too. A lot of food, but I only had fish, fruits and salad.

Good service- exceed our expectation
First, we travelled in Baltic States and decided to stay four nights and requested a room with wooden beam and floor. We arrived late at night, the staff was friendly and we got a nice room under the roof with wooden beam! We got one small window right under the letter P of hotel name. We really appreciate it.

Second, we want to go to Rundale Palace and needed a car with driver because it was low season-freezing cold April-difficult to buy a day tour going there. The lady staff at the front desk called to get a car with driver for us. We didn't want a guide, she talked to them for us and we got a car without a guide at a reasonable price. We enjoyed our ride to Rundale Palace and had the palace to ourselves- a quiet day at the palace!

Third, my daughter got a birthday card and Riga sparkling wine from the hotel in the morning on her birthday- nice gesture. I told them when we booked the room hoping to get a nice room-and we did. But the wine is a surprise.

Fourth, helpful staff providing information that we needed during our stay.

We will choose this hotel again next time.

Warm, cozy, friendly slightly elegant, justifiably a 4 star hotel. Beautifully architected, great location between Old Town and the "new" town. Close to restaurants, city sights, Train Station and one can walk to any place worth visiting. Parks are nearby in which one can relax. The spa is a fantastic perk and the breakfast is first cabin.
Rooms are clean, comfortable and the Hotel provides Airport transit for a charge. Slippers and robes are offered to all guests and the bathroom, although small, is adequate and the floors radiantly-heated. (Most European bath rooms are small and "shoe-horned" in a renovated reconstruction.)
In summary, this hotel is well worth the value. We, thru the net, grabbed this jewel for less than $100 USD per night.
