It's good budget accomodation, new , clean and good furnished room and friendly personal. Bathroom is better than in 4 star Riga hotel. Perfect place to sleep and spent your time in city center. No take a chance to walk to/from hotel, use tramway No.7 ( Daugavpils iela) 6 stops from city center, pay 0.5 lat to driver or use E-ticket ( 2 lat for 5 trips, sold in Narvesen kiosks ). I had good price at Expedia - 38$ instead 39 Euro at hotel

Taxis wait outside, like camels waiting to escort you through the charming Soviet style wilderness to the commercial districts for 5 Lats. Or just use the tramway opposite. Hotel is well designed throughout. Small rooms well designed eg reading lights next to each bed. Modern bathrooms. Loads of friendly staff.

the only good thing - the hotel is new, rooms are clean, however the hotel does not look like on pictures.
the rooms are too small, no air-conditioning
Okay to stay there only during the working days if you just need somewhere to sleep. The hotel area around looks horrible and not really safe, to be honest - old houses and weird-looking people. Tram to the City Center takes around 15 min, walking could take 30min, but I didn't take a risk.
Anyway, it's possible to find a better hotel for the same price with better location and bigger room size in Riga

First let me address the location as this seems to be the main bugbear with this place. OK, its not in the centre of old Riga. So what? It costs a few quid in a taxi if youre heading home late or are just lazy. You can catch a tram to the door during the day. Or you can take a leisurely half hour walk into/from town. There, thats not so bad! As for the area, "rundown" seems a little harsh. If this is run down most places in Europe east of germany are run down. Its fine.
The hotel itself is smart and modern. the rooms are hardly palatial but who would be expecting that for the cost?? The bathroom had a modern hot shower and basin and the rooms came with tv which included an english language news channel and a dozen others.
This hotel provides a sound cheap base from which to explore Riga and the surrounding region. If the hotel is part of your whole travel "experience" pay €200 a night and go to somewhere suitably decadent. If you want to pay around €20 for a good clean well furnished room, stay here.

This is a fairly new hotel, and is clean and smart. This is in contrast to the area its situated in. The hotel says that you are 15 mins walk from the centre of Riga, but I can assure you this is not the case. It seems to be in a run down part of town, confusing to find on foot. However it is true that there is a tram only yards away, which will run you into town in about 10 mins. The trams are frequent and cheap. As far as the hotel is concerned, it was clean and bright, and very affordable. There is breakfast available at extra cost, but this is fairly minimal, as there is no cooked, hot food, only toast and pancakes. Plenty of fruit and juices.

I stayed in the Dodo as part of a stag party in Sept 2008. There were only 6 of us, 5 on the first night, between a number of rooms. Now first thing to say is that the rooms are mostly twin from what we saw and the same price for 2 people occupying as it is 1. ** Unless you get a great deal, It is only good value if you get 2 in a room. ** The hotel also doesn't look as it does in the pictures!!

There have been mixed reviews on the location, it would seem. The tram is on the doorstep and cheap (0.50Lat to go anywhere one way) and that goes into the centre fine. You can also get to other locations as well and although it can get busy, the price negates this in my opinion. Around the hotel itself, there is a tiny shop next to it that looks very 'interesting', but alternatively a big shopping centre and supermarket is a short walk away. There is no fridge in the room (so don't buy milk!), but water and stuff is well priced here.

Around the hotel is the same as most of the Riga suburbs, Russian style, war torn buildings where you feel you could easily be shot at, with the odd bit of westernisation dotted about. The centre of Riga is better, with bars in the 'old town' and a very nice bar at the top of the skyline building (the tall one) on the 26th floor. On the ground floor (Floor 1 when in Latvia), there was also a good casino.

I can see why stags go here but be careful and book your excursions through a reputable third party. And even then don't expect things like club entry and stuff to be sorted for you. I personally wouldn't go back but it was an experience. It's also not as cheap as you think it will be.

We arrived at the hotel with a taxi from the airport. This turned out to be a good decision since it’s out of town and not easy to find. The hotel is new and modern. The room and the bed are very small and the breakfast was not that good.

The hotel states that you can walk in to town in just 15 minutes. The tram takes almost 15 minutes into town. The area around the hotel must look exactly the same as it did in 1940. You get a feeling that the area is not safe (maybe that’s why the security man at the hotel has a pistol in his belt) but I don’t know.
