It is a bit tricky - when you drive close to the entrance the road goes up to the big parking garage, but it does not belong to the hotel, you need to drive behind the building on the right hand side. The main entrance is rather small. The hotel itself is situated not far from the historic center of the city. We also drove by big shopping malls. The view from my room was on parking lot. The other big hotel is situated next door.
The price included visit to swimming pool untill 12am, but it is situated in another building, so we did not use it. You would have to rent towels if you go there, the receptionists said. There is also SPA at the hotel, opens later then we could stay in.
The room size is OK, not big. Small TV, no seif, no minibar. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable, bedsheets of good quality and smelled good.
The reception area is rather small, it contains bar and a few tables with armchairs. The receptionists spoke relativly good English, but one of them did not speak Russian, which was rather unconviniet as they had a group of Russians at the same time trying to check in.
Breakfast was very good, with variety of food and tasty.

This is my second stay in this hotel, both have been for 4 week spells; so seen pretty much everything there is to see in this hotel. This is the best hotel I have stayed in during my visits to the Baltics. The staff are very friendly; it has an excellent restaurant which is reasonably priced; only let down a little by lack of atmosphere; including the bar as well. The quality of food when you eat here is excellent; with a great selection for breakfast as well. The staff are very attentive keeping the place tidy at all times and ensuring you are served very quickly. Rooms are clean and comfortable, with excellent internet access. Excellent Spa connected to the hotel with a discount given to residents. The hotel is well located for shopping as well as being next to bus station. I really am struggling for negatives and its a good day the only thing you can find fault with is the toaster at breakfast and occasionally the eggs are overcooked slightly. The other point worthy of note is you get discount eating in restaurant; albeit staff need to be reminded of this when settling the bill. In summary; well worth a visit !

Room Tip: View over the river or old town are worth asking for

Hotel is located right next to the bus station. The room was very basic and clean. There was no minibar. Free wifi was included in the price. The reception staff was ok, they did their job but nothing more. The breakfast was sufficient.

Room Tip: Room with river view

Had a standard room for 2 nights in October. Normally when I stay here I invest in upgrading to a superior room. I didn't on this occasion and regretted it. The bed was quite hard and not very comfortable compared to the other room. Other than that the room was comfortable.

Excellent location in 5 minute walking distance of town centre on river bank.
Just few steps from busstation. Room was very simple, but functional.
Only breakfast buffet was little disappointing but still sufficient.
Spa and it's services sounded good but we ha no time visit there.
Overall good value for money in Baltian standards

Very clean new hotel with welcoming lobby. Walk along the river to the old town center in just a couple of minutes. Supermarket (open until 11pm) and other stores just around the corner in shopping mall. Bed is very comfortable, no noise from hotel guests nor from outside. Breakfast in hotel is good, but nothing exceptional. Try the spa services: broad range of treatments and not expensive. Bus arriving from Tallinn only footsteps away from hotel. Overall, excellent location and good service. Only thing I missed was small fridge and coffee/tea making facility in the room.

The Dorpat hotel is located next to the Tartu bus station, which makes it really easy if you arrive in Tartu by bus. It's a comfortable hotel, with simple and pleasant rooms, a rather good restaurant and a welcoming lobby.
In the area around the hotel there's a market and a few shopping malls - not really an exciting neighborhood, but the hotel is only a 5 minute walk away from the center of Tartu, and the walk along the river is very pleasant.
The Tartu conference center is located in the shopping mall in front of the hotel, so the Dorpat is a convenient base if you attend an event there.
2 blocks from the hotel there's a very good and large swimming pool and aqua fun center, Aura (http://www.aurakeskus.ee/). As a guest of the Dorpat you have free access to the pool until noon.
The Dorpat has also a Spa center which offers a broad variety of treatments and massages; I haven't tried it but it seems quite popular - in fact there are often large groups staying at the Dorpat to make use of the spa services. Prices seemed very good.
I had dinner at the hotel restaurant which was good: taking into account the price, it's an excellent choice if you don't want to walk to the center.
Breakfast on the other hand is a bit dull; there's a choice of hot food (eggs, bacon, beans, meatballs) and cold (salmon, cheese, haring), plus fresh fruit. But it's absolutely the same every day, and after a couple of days I couldn't take it any longer. It feels a bit like a hostel breakfast. There are however excellent pastry shops in the center where you can buy something for the morning.
The rooms are basic - no coffee maker or minibar, for instance, but comfortable beds and good shower.
I had a pleasant 4 night stay there; and since I was busy most of the day at the conference center, the location was perfect and the comfort was good enough. If I were in Tartu on holiday however I would rather stay in the center, in a hotel with slightly more character. However, the Dorpat has an excellent value for money, and if you're interested in the spa services it's definitely the place to stay.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view on the river - it's better than looking at the parking lot and shopping m...
