We were visiting with a group of 30 people from Belgium (ages between 15 and 81 years old) and everybody thought it was great. You can spend several hours there. No Flemish language available but English, French, German, ..;

Interesting und multisided museum into Estonian history and culture, more recent and ancient, as well. Nice architecture.

The exhibition is huge. It takes easily three hours to go throuhg the museum. The building itself is interesting as is the location of the museum. It’s build on a Soviet era military airstrip.

Two permanent exhibits. One is on the various small Finno-Ugric subgroups, including Estonians and (I did not know this) Sami (sometimes called Lapps). The other is post-independence Estonia, including the Soviet occupation. Estonia will remind you often about the Soviet period.

Forty minute walk from downtown.

A 20min walk away to the east of the center of Tartu you will find the Estonian National Museum. It is located on the old Raadi airfield and was opened in fall 2016. It has a wonderful collection of Estonian historical treasures and covers the history of the Estonian people and nation. You will also find an exhibition of the Finno-Ugric people, their histories and cultures.
The building is large, modern and uses modern technology to allow visitors to read about items in Estonia, Finnish or English via their entrance ticket.
The items are beautifully laid out and displayed and makes for a great experience.
The restaurant is large and comfortable, with a delicious and inexpensive buffet.
Walk along Roosi street to or from the center for a look at some old and new Estonian homes.
You will not be disappointed.
