Domus Dorpatensis Guest Apartments
Ranked #6 of 23 Specialty Lodging in Tartu

The hotel is located in very central location in Tartu city square, next to most restaurants and sights.

We stayed in apartment #5, which was quite spacious and clean and equipped with fridge, coffee machine, stove and even a washing machine in the bathroom.

There was no air conditioning and no elevator. Our room was in the second floor.

There was room only for two cars in the closed inner yard so it might be worth booking a place for your car in advance. There are also lot of parking possibilities on the streets but with additional cost.

We booked two apartments in this block for two nights. The location couldn't be more central and convenient. We were greeted by a very pleasant lady who quickly sorted out the paperwork and showed us to the rooms. Both the apartments were on the first floor looking into a courtyard. in the courtyard is Cafe Noir, a restaurant and bar, which is recommended on Trip advisor, but we did not try it. Given the central location it is very quiet with the exception of the restaurant putting out their bins at 7am. The apartments were clean and spacious with twin beds, sofa, kitchenette, desk, wardrobe and bathroom. There was parking outside for 7.5 euros a day, or round the corner, next to Hotel London, for 3.5 euros a day.

At 57.8 euros per night per apartment this was an excellent accommodation choice in a great location.

Reservations were easy to make online. We arrived by bus from Tallinn and walked to the Domus. It’s a bit of a walk, but level. You can easily do it in 15-20 minutes. The rooms are right in the center of town, adjacent to the town hall and square. We arrived on a Sunday, when the office is closed, but we told them when we would be there about a week ahead of time and they were there to meet us and check us in. The person who checked us in was very helpful. Since we had been on the road for a while this was the place where we wanted to wash clothes. There is a washing machine available for EUR 2.50 per load, soap included. No drying machine, but they furnish a drying rack and since the weather was warm our clothes dried overnight. The apartments are upstairs and there is no lift. Our room (number 8) was very large and comfortable with a couch, armchair, desk and chair, table and chairs and kitchen (with a hot place, fridge, toaster, hot water pot, etc.). The kitchen has plates, pots and utensils. The bathroom was of good size—the only disadvantage was that the shower is not separated from the rest of the bathroom, so you get water on the floor when you take a shower. Not a big problem, as they provide a squeegee to clean it up, but be sure to take up the bathroom rug before you shower or you’ll get it wet. The rooms are not serviced daily but if you need anything, just ask. The room was very quiet and the beds were comfortable, so we slept well. There is a small café in the courtyard, but they weren’t noisy. There is a grocery store in the shopping center down the street. There is no air conditioning but lots of windows you can open if you need to. We took the train to Valga to transfer to the one to Riga and the train station is not within walking distance with suitcases as it’s uphill most of the way. We went down the street to the shopping center and took the city bus instead. Buses 7 and 20 run there. The schedules are posted at the shopping center. The railway station is the stop “raudteejaam” on the schedule.

Room Tip: You can choose your room when you make your reservation online.

Nice apartments located in the very center of Tartu. Also good for longer stays, since the kitchens are quit well (though only with the most basic equipment). Note that it's easiest to reach the staff Monday to Friday between 10 and 17.

I am currently staying in Domus Dorpatensis guest apartments due to my work in Tartu.
Apartments are really nice as they are located in a historical house which kept its original form for long centuries. Locations is very convenient as well. Apartment is right next to main square Raekoja plats where main restaurants and cafeterias are located. University is on the same street, just 100m away.
Domus is also a cultural and scientific foundation which adds the intellectual atmosphere to the place, I would say. There are all the time some professors and scientist around an many events taking place each week - also in English.
Rooms are neat as well. They are spacious, light and nicely equipped. You find everything from coffee machine to big mirror, from ventilator or digital TV. Good thing is that you have your own kitchen, so you can prepare meals on your own.
Furthermore, I would point out a parking option in the yard. It feels nice to know that car is safe over night.
Staff is friendly and multilingual and available 24/7 by phone.
