Viru street and square is a true paradise for shopping and trying out local food! Check the sweater wall that starts from Viru street (it start near Mcdonalds, on your right if you go to the direction of the city centre). And at the end of the Sweater wall there is the hidden entrance to Katarina Kik

I would try to stay close to the Viru square, since it is walking distance to the old and new town. The hop on and off buses pick up and drop off here. Also, some great restaurants in the area.

Here is one of the entry points to the old town. There is a central bus station. You also get hop-on-hop-off bus from here.

We arrived in Tallinn with a cruise ship. Started out old town walk from here and also the city tour with bus from here.

There is something for everyone: garden, flee market, city to our guides, restuarents and what not... The place is always bustling with people and you will surely have fun.

This square was one of the first things I saw in Tallinn, and it was very pretty. People were out enjoying cafes, selling flowers, or just generally sightseeing.

Should you need respect there, never tell that you are fom Finland. Use you thickest American accent and they still may think that, come on you a only a Finn. Culturally a perfect town to learn in three hours.
