It is worth both paying to go on the walls and walking around the outside of them. We purchased the Tallinn Card and so could go into the defensive museum for free which allows you to walk on a section of the walls. You can certainly view them from the base for no cost. It is amazing how many towers are left.

The cobbled street of the Pikk is a prime spot to hear some solo instrumentalists, buy some original paintings of Tallinn sights and scenery, or just reflect upon the sheer effort required to construct this walled city.

One of the entries to Old Town Tallinn; quite impressive to see; right outside the wall they have numerous flowers shops and right past the walls you have the ever so famous McDonald's…you just can't escape them.

The 13th century walls, towers and bastions enclosing the Old Town are truly amazing. They are spectacularly well preserved, giving so many photo opportunities. There are a couple of places that, for a small fee, you can walk on a section of the wall, get a great view and enter some of the towers.
