There is a new popular place near the main Tallinn railway station.Once there was a closed area with all kind of Soviet plants and workshops. Now most of the gloomy buildings are renovated, redecorated and full of eating places, shops, exhibitions and even a theatre. It has become very popular with the locals and foreign visitors. The place needed a lot of creativity and fantacy to change it.At the moment there are wonderful photo exhibitions .

If you are interested to understand how estonians use their old industrial plants to set up new economical activities, let's go to Tellivinski.
Nice new modern shops, clothes designers, starts up, restaurants, bars... a new city in the old city !
Visit absolutely !

Designer shops mixed with cheap second hand. A wide variety of food and drink. Everything from a steady, incredibly cheap meal to the most "in" hipster restaurants and cafés. In and around old factory buildings, railway cars, containers - you name it.

You won't be the only tourist (far from it), but this is where the locals go.

This area of Tallinn is mostly run-down industrial buildings, but brightened up with colourful murals.
The Telliskivi Loomelinnak complex in the middle of it, is fully restored and houses beautiful designer's shops. If you want to buy something unique, this is the place to go. I enjoyed browsing the shops and ... ended up buying a vegan wallet ( really !) which was made of tree leaves instead of leather.
Plenty of food options in this neighbourhood, but the falafels I had for lunch were the worst I ever ate.

Decided to explore another face of the Tallinn and spent a hour or so in this area. Nice contrast with old town. Fun murals, interesting shops housing Estonian designers' products (pretty expensive) and nice down to earth food. Also local shopping complex in the vicinity that was also worth exploring. All in all an enjoyable side trip from the old town
