“Interesting and Diverse”
Reviewed September 3, 2012

Well worth the time. Many interesting exhibits. I particularly was intrigued by the exibit showing the remnants found in strata each representing one hundred years, going back two millenia.

Most memorable is the elaborate Estonia history of independence presentations both in scroll, picture, and video, on the top floor.

“Good Historical Overview”
Reviewed May 21, 2012

We stumbled into this museum on a Monday when most other places were closed, and I'm glad we did. It gives a very good overview of the city's history, especially as a trade center. The audio guide is excellent, although all of the posted descriptions and explanations are in English. There is also a floor devoted to the years of Russian occupation.

“interesting Museum - Displays include Buried Treasure and Ship models”
Reviewed March 16, 2012

The museum was a worthwhile, interesting stop. There is an audio guide in English available (entrance and audio guide free with the Tallinn Card) and the museum also has English translations of the displays. The first floor has a model of the city, historical ceramic tiles display and a small recreation of a kitchen. The second floor has wonderful ship replica models and be sure to look for the display with the hidden treasure - it contains a stash of an ancient coins found in the waters, and the display notes that the original hiding place was marked by two pegs to identify the spot. Background audio recreates sounds of Tallinn streets in the days of the Hanseatic League. Well worth a visit if you enjoy history and a concise, well presented presentation of the story of Tallinn.

“Bigger Than It Looks”
Reviewed June 15, 2011

When i went in i saw that there was not a great deal on the ground floor and assumed that the other floor would be likewise but not so.Instead i found a fairly large city museum awaiting me on the upper floors. What i found of particular interest was the section on the Communist period on the top floor.Although no English translation on the walls you are handed a full English translation.Certainly one ofr the more interesting city museums that i have been to.
