This church resides at the top Toompea Hill, not too far from Toompea Castle and Tall Hermann. The exterior is a bit plain compared to a number of other churches, but it had its own uniqueness; especially after entering the church. I loved the entry ways into the building, etc., and am disappointed I somehow missed visiting the tower; would've loved to have seen the views from it.

Much less ornate than the adjacent Russian Orthodox Aleksander Nevsky Cathedral, the inside is fascinating. The interior walls are covered with dozens of large wooden family crests; there are also several large metal chandeliers, a very ornate pulpit and what looks like a large raised wood and glass private pew. When I was there, the organ was being played, which added to the atmosphere.

From the outside the Toomkirik i.e. St. Mary's Cathedral looks really simple compared to the beautiful Alexander Nevski beside. But it's worth a look inside.
And what really makes this one of the old city's top sites is the tower. There are so many historic towers here and we have climbed all which we've found. This one provided the best views, by far!

The church is not overly sanitised like a lot these days. There are family crests on the walls from the families buried there.
Pay the extra 3 euro for the tower which has great views of the city.

This church is high up on the hill, and if you pay for the tower you get a good view of Tallinn beneath you. It's a steep incline staircase made for one person line however there are inlets in th stairway that allows for accessibility to allow others pass by. The church is pretty and the alter is very architectural. Super cheap couple euros get you the church and tower.
