We walked past this hill and cafe multiple times during our stay, and I very much regret not stopping in earlier. The pretty little green, hexagonal restaurant has lovely seating inside and out, a small selection of snacks, and a fantastic view. We enjoyed a rice, egg, and onion pastry on our last morning after checking out of our hotel...honestly, possibly the tastiest meal from the entire trip!

A part of old town. easy to get lost down narrow streets winding upward toward the old walls and great views of the city below. lots of changing architectural styles.

If visiting by cruise ship as I did, I would recommend starting at Toompea Hill and then working your way back towards Viru gate. Lots of lovely attractions at the top of the hill with a great view.

This attractive part of Tallinn is slowly being strangled by its own success. Lovely restored buildings, intriging alleyways and majestic cathedrals all groan under the weight of visitors. There are some fairly tenuously linked museums and some wonderful sights.
We were so fed up with the difficulty of moving around, let alone actually see anything, that we left after about 30 minutes (in the mid morning). Only to return after 15.00 (3.00pm), when it was much quieter and we could enjoy this attractive area and its 17th century buildings with cobbled streets.
I guess the lesson for us was to pick our time.

full of history and medieval spirit. the hill has several wonderful terraces from where different parts of the city can be spactarularly viewed, especially if watch the sunset.
