“Wonderful stay - an excellent hotel!”
Reviewed May 7, 2009

I stayed in this hotel for one night with a friend and had a wonderful stay. The staff were extremely helpful and efficient, especially Paul and his wonderful staff and it is an obviously well run hotel.
The hotel itself is very modern and is a 10-15 min walk into town. Our room was a good size twin room which was very clean with comfortable beds. The shower was excellent. The internet access was a bonus and worked well as was the free safe box in the room.
Breakfast was served until 10am and there was a good selection and good service.
Tallinn itself is a wonderful city and I hope to visit again soon. I would highly recommend the Mihkli Hotel and would definitely stay here again.

I was really looking forward to my stay in this hotel - close to town, not too expensive and wonderful looking rooms.
My partner and I had booked a double room three weeks prior to our departure. When we arrived we found they had given us a twin room with two single beds. When we asked at recpetion for a double, they said they only had three twin rooms left.
Our Kettle did not work.
The internet connection either did not work or ran very slowly.
They did not replenish the tea and coffee in the room daily.
The towels were stained, old and starting to go threadbare
The dispenser for soap was empty when we arrived and did not get replaced by housekkeping until I called and asked them to replace it.

The room was cleaned to a high standard though and two of the women on the front desk were helpful.
All in all I was disappointed - but then it was cheap - so I guess you get what you pay for.

Thankyou for your review , I am really sad to hear your comments and very confused! ALL our rooms are twin rooms, but have the ability to join together with zippable mattress, to make excellent double beds with an overlay mattress, so we have never had this comment before as it simply cannot happen. Also this is the first time we have had bad comments re housekeeping, if you read previous reviews you will understand this, it simply is very surprising to me, all room amenities are checked every day. I always appreciate comments good and bad , as it gives me the opportunity to get things right , but i am sorry some comments in your review need verification, for example WIFI access for example, we have computers in every room which are directly linked to the internet, so the strength is constant. In the public areas it is very strong and i use it every day. Re the towels again this is the first comment re this and i need to know which room you stayed. If you can provide me with these details of course i will take these comments as valid and not from a competitor hotel.

Quite often on a trip we arrive at a hotel for our final few days that we wished we had booked for a longer period of our holiday. This was another great example.

It doesnt look like much from the front but inside reception and dining area's give an immediate positive impression. Staff were helpful in the few interactions we had, checking in-out and phoning taxi's. Room was a good size, clean and comfortable and unusually the room had its own PC with free internet access.

A buffet breakfast offered a good range and quality of food.

Only issue for some could be location. Around 10-15 minute walk to more central locations and even further from harbour. We enjoy the relaxing walk to and from hotels, often seeing things we may have missed like resturants. It was however a good location for the short walk to the A. Le Coq Arena where you can watch Flora Tallinn play soccer.

We booked this hotel through Skoosh as it was extremely reasonable and purported to be clean and close to the old town.

On arrival, we were slightly disappointed to see that the outside looked a little grey and shabby and warily trudged inside. Our fears were instantly allayed as the inside turned out to be fairly modern and impressive. Check in was fine; the staff member at the desk spoke excellent English and was very efficient.

It was when we got to our rooms that we were most pleasantly surprised as we had been upgraded to the 'Zen' rooms, which contain huge bathrooms, complete with corner jacuzzi, robes, slipper, tea and coffee making facilities and computer with internet access.

The hotel itself is only a 20 minutes stroll from the Old Town (head straight up the hill for the Toompea and its surrounding vista of the city) with plenty of bars and restaurants within.

An added bonus was the restaurant downstairs, serving decent American breakfast and also where you can eat a meat, vegetable and extras buffet (if that's your thing) for about £15. There are other things on the menu and cheaper alternatives if you require them. The staff here were also very commendable.

The hotel also has extras if you want to use them, such as a sauna and gym.

All in all, a wonderful experience.

Fifth visit to Tallinn but first to this hotel. As it was Valentine’s weekend the thought of a Jacuzzi in one of the Zen rooms was rather appealing. Lovely bright reception area and very friendly, helpful staff. Room itself was very nice – tastefully decorated in a minimalist way and then of course THAT Jacuzzi which was fabulous. Hotel at first seems a bit of a way from anything. It is possible to get to it from the airport on public transport but does involve a change of bus or a longish walk from where you get off the first one (by the shopping centre). However only takes about 10-15 minutes to walk back into the old town. As we had a fairly early flight back on the Sunday we decided, for convenience, to take a taxi which the hotel staff arranged for us. Revisited a few of our favourite haunts and had a fabulous meal in the Maikrahv, Raekoja plats 8, on Valentine's Day. Also tried the Lounge 24 on 24th floor of Radisson Hotel for the first time with fantastic views. Must be great in the Summer when you can go out onto the terrace.Considering the location the cocktails weren’t ridiculously priced.
Unfortunately due to the fact that both nights we ended up drinking cocktails until 4 or 5 in the morning can't comment on the breakfast at the hotel or the sauna both of which were included in very reasonable price.
Worth getting a copy of Tallinn in your Pocket – copies available at reception or you can download them beforehand free from their website.

We had the pleasure of staying at the Mihkli on our recent trip. We got a superb deal from Hotel.net so were not expecting too much but were pleasently suprised on arrival. The hotel check in was very swift and Paul from Uniquestay had kindly upgraded us with a couple of suprises, thank you.

We had a Zen room which was very spacious with a wonderful mood lit jacuzzi bath, a seperate living area which had TV, mini bar and computer with free internet access, which was very handy for checking out the menu's of local restaurants to see where to eat.

The hotel isn't in the old town but the 10 minute walk back in the winter conditions wasn't a chore but another opportunity to view the wonderful scenery by night.

Tallinn is a wonderful city and we highly recommend it, there are many sights to see but it is best if you just take your time and discover them for yourself as your guaranteed to discover many treasures as you wander about.

As for eating Troika was the pick for us but Beer House and Hell Hunt both were excellent.

  • Liked — Jacuzzi Bath. Free Internet. Beds very comfortable.

The Mihkli is a pleasant hotel which you may be able to get for cheaper than some other Tallinn hotels due to it being outside of the old town. It's a very manageable 10-15 minute (max) walk - though in December it felt longer due to the cold! The distance isn't the problem so much as the fact that there are no bars around it and during my stay the inhouse bar was closed.

That would be my only criticism of the hotel really, that it seemed a little lifeless. Otherwise the hotel was clean and modern. Breakfast was an informal buffet with a fairly good selection of foods.

I went for the slightly more expensive ZEN room, which included a large spa bath, and a slightly larger and more pleasant bedroom.

Many thanks for your review and your constructive comments. The winter period is the quietest time in all hotels in Tallinn, in fact we are fuller than most, but i apologise for the lack of life in the hotel over this quiet period, We in fact have two bars , la boheme and the Ipanema Brazilian Rodizio restaurant and bar which is open 6 days a week until late. I can assume that it was the La boheme which was closed over part of the christmas period , but the Ipanema must have been open in this instance downstairs, i am sorry it was not pointed out to you, heres a video link of the Ipanema
http://www.youtube.com/watch?=z6dYG1OrDII
Please come back when the season starts in April and i will make sure you have a nice stay.
Regarding life around the hotel, we have one of the biggest shopping centres, the Kristiine Centre,, with many outlets and also one of the best nightclubs in Tallinn, Club von Uberlingen, is very near, but in the other direction than to the old town , around 5 min walk away We are also next to the National Library , one of the bigger landmarks in Tallinn. Your comment has actually has given me the idea i should have a small map produced with these sites and venues on it, thanks! Also it is wise to point out hotels in the old town have a big problem with noise at night, because of the small streets, if fact most of them provide complimentary ear plugs for guests, so at least you can be fully rested in the Uniquestay Mihkli !
