If your looking for evidence of a Russian presence in Tallinn, look no further. This place was built specifically to remind the local population that they were under the yoke of the Russians so is completely out of character with the rest of the architecture in Tallinn.

The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is a beautiful architectural structure inside & outside. Breathtaking sight to see from the Toompea Hill. Stunning beauty indeed! One should not miss visiting this cathedral when in Tallinn, Estonia.

The Eastern Orthodox church like to build UP rather than going for the floor space. By all accounts this was built to impress, and to fill the Estonians with awe for the Russian empire. To some extent it succeeded, and the "onions" on top look good. But, although the icons and madonnas are worth a look, I still feel like it was built without the correct religious feel to make it memorable.

This Cathedral is beautiful from the outside with it's onion domes, it is a fine example of a Russian Orthodox Church. The church has undergone considerable restoration work since Estonia gained independence in 1991 and in fact, work continues at the site. You can go inside, where there are no services and there is not a charge. The interior is as pretty as the exterior. You will not miss this if you are exploring Toompea Hill

Visited this ancient Russian Orthodox Church. It's architecture is stunning. Well worth walking around the outside to fully appreciate.
Inside is quiet dark and less impressive with large widen pews. The 'no photography' rule inside is strictly unforced by a less than friendly security guard. Nonetheless, well worth a visit.
