One of the oldest cafes in town with a cozy atmosphere inside, a candle with a soft light on each table and tasty desserts on a showcase. Prices are slightly higher than average, but a regular coffee like espresso and americano are not that good. Hot chocolate and tea are much better by the way. Pastry is also tasty. Reccomend to visit.

Beautiful looking place with fabulous looking cakes. Just visited once, but found the staff unfriendly and the coffee average, whilst the prices are top. I'd try other places before heading to this place despite it oozing old world class ....

This is the oldest operating cafe, not only in Tallinn, but Estonia. Its interior has been unchanged for almost a century, and as such, it was like stepping back in time. . . You order from the counter, and then sit and enjoy at a little table. The items in the case are a feast for the eyes! And your tastebuds! My husband sipped a Vana Liqueur, while I enjoyed a hot chocolate with a piece of "roulette" with berries and whipped cream. Yum!!!

Must visit legendary bakery pastry. Not expect much of coffee, but desserts are awesome. Strongly recommend.

When touring a city, I like to visit the oldest things – churches, monuments restaurants and cafés for instance. Maiasmokk is Tallinn’s oldest active café – in operation since 1864. When I’m in such places, it is easy for me to slip into the flow of history and imagine all of the wonderful (and terrible) events that the location has lived through and the thousands of people who have worshipped or eaten there across the centuries. The images can be vivid and come fast.

That by itself would be enough to make me go, but in the medieval walled city that is Old Town Tallinn, you will find buildings much older and despite its loveliness, more beautiful than Maiasmokk. But in addition to its age and beauty, the café offers more; much more. Fine coffees, delicious pastries, attractive décor (virtually unchanged, other than modernized, for nearly a century), and friendly service. Everything that you look for in a fine European café; plus delightfully designed marzipan figures.

So, go for the history, go for the pastries, or go for both. You will be glad you did.

Note that we did not go on a cruise, so the café may be very busy when a ship docks for the day.
