Traditional Estonian food is quite off-putting: huge hunks of fat-draped pork etc. So, finding a modern Estonian restaurant was a delightful surprise, and Leib really delivers with top-quality dishes that honour local produce and cooking traditions but bring them up to date. The wine list is also excellent, and the garden setting on a balmy summer evening was delightful. Worth every euro!
You can read all about the restaurant at their website, which will also help you to find it: http://www.leibresto.ee/#!__eng/. On the evening we went, we shared the herring roe starter -- absolutely delicious combination of subtle flavours, which made the otherwise salty roe a bit milder, and then one of us had the grilled trout and one had the sausage. Both dishes were cooked to perfection. The Estonian cheeses we finished the meal with were unusual in taste and much more challenging (in a good way) than the cheese we had elsewhere.
