Description: Leib is run by two professional foodies - a chef and a sommelier. Having our own restaurant is a dream come true for both of us. Leib means black bread in Estonian and we have chosen it to be our name for a reason! Good old local black bread - fresh, warm, simple, and honest - it's what we, Estonians, grow up with and what we dream about when away. It's what we are, really. Good bread is always made with soul. We are passionate about sharing goodies from our homeland. We work with local farmers and fishermen to create delicious yet simple dishes. Since most of our ingredients are local, the menu is always seasonal. Less is more- therefore our menu is compact and constantly changing. Hand-made bread, coupled with foods made from natural, local ingredients is a true gastronomic delight. Leib - soulful casual dining!

“Top quality food in a perfect garden setting”
Reviewed August 29, 2013

Traditional Estonian food is quite off-putting: huge hunks of fat-draped pork etc. So, finding a modern Estonian restaurant was a delightful surprise, and Leib really delivers with top-quality dishes that honour local produce and cooking traditions but bring them up to date. The wine list is also excellent, and the garden setting on a balmy summer evening was delightful. Worth every euro!

You can read all about the restaurant at their website, which will also help you to find it: http://www.leibresto.ee/#!__eng/. On the evening we went, we shared the herring roe starter -- absolutely delicious combination of subtle flavours, which made the otherwise salty roe a bit milder, and then one of us had the grilled trout and one had the sausage. Both dishes were cooked to perfection. The Estonian cheeses we finished the meal with were unusual in taste and much more challenging (in a good way) than the cheese we had elsewhere.

“Rhubarb..rhubarb...rhubarb”

Very happy with decision of visiting Leib restaurant. Food - amazing; stuff - helpful and competent; interior - simple and cozy. The place itself is sort of musterious... hidden garden with gorgous set up of restaurant. Worth to try for sure!

“Hidden gem of Tallinn”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

Fantastic restaurant in the northern capital of Baltics. Food and service were just perfect. Staff was very competent and ready to help. However it is somewhat hidden, you have to know where are you going.

“So good... I had two desserts!”
Reviewed August 24, 2013

I had reviewed some restaurants and before making my trip to Tallinn I decided on Leib and I was not disappointed. The restaurant is located in the old town of Tallinn, not far from St. Olaf's Church.

We arrived at the restaurant at 8:00 on a Wednesday night without a booking. We walked through a set of old gates, and up a winding garden path. We were offered the last available table, which was on the terrace. I was apprehensive at first as we had to sit on the terrace, but there was no need to be, as the seating on the terrace was very comfortable with the chairs well covered with sheepskin covers on the chairs and blanket provided for each diner should they need it.

I would recommend booking a table, despite the fact that there are a large number of tables, the restaurant sees to fill them all. There are two indoor floors in the restaurant and there are also tables on the restaurant patio, in the garden with more overlooking the garden.

The food was very impressive, especially considering how well priced the menu is. We had the pike and the fillet steak. The pike was expertly cooked, and melted in the mouth. I ordered the steak medium, but it came out slightly undercooked, not enough that I would send it back, but enough to know that it was not medium.

However, the rest of the experience in the restaurant was so nice, I could overlook this. We were sitting beside the kitchen pass on the patio and could see all the desserts being sent from the kitchen. I couldn't decide what to get for dessert, so I ordered the Strawberries set in red wine jelly, and the Rhubarb Rhubarb Rhubarb, which was rhubarb three ways in the one dessert. The strawberries set in the red wine was the most impressive though and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

The staff were polite and professional, the restaurant was comfortable and in a beautiful setting and the food was very enjoyable. I will definitely visit Leib the next time I am in Tallinn.

Good food for reasonable prices. Large outdoor dining area. We ate on the balcony which was also very cosy. Very attentive service. Would recommend!
