“What has taken place during the 4 years I was away?”
Reviewed November 24, 2013

I stayed at Meriton Grand conference & spa about 4 years back. I walked out thinking this was one of the best price/quality hotels I've been to. The room particularly stuck in my mind, it felt modern, minimalist and clean.

Went again with the spouse. Big disappointment. The room looked really worn out with a dirty wooden floor. The TV remote had run out of batteries; a small issue, but it communicates a lack of attention to detail. The bathroom has brown stains on the shower room floor. The drainage did not work, as the bathroom floor was overflowing after a 4 minute shower. The bed was hard, pillows to small. Noisy drunk finnish neighbours.

Breakfast selection was sub-par. You have to order separately if you want decent eggs, grav lax or ham.

Sorry to say, not going back.

It’s well located, near the castle, with a nice view of it but only from the top terrace. The room is nice with a huge and very comfortable bad. The Wi Fi is free and works well. And I couldn’t find further pluses. This was my first stay in the 4 stars hotel that isn’t very clean, I had some hair on the bedspread and the cleaning lady left the garbage in the middle of my room. I know that we all make mistakes but it wasn’t pleasant to experience. The bathroom is strangely designed so that the water from the shower spreads all over the floor. There are no fancy, little soaps and shampoos but what is worst, there is no complimentary water, you have to buy one for 6 EUR. Breakfasts are very poor and monotonous, everyday the same. I visited Russian restaurant where the food was absolutely perfect but the service was the worst I experienced ever. The service was better in Asian restaurant but the food was very average there. The swimming pool is OK but also quite used and not perfectly clean, the saunas are great, especially the salt one. Anyway, wouldn’t choose it again.

Hotel rooms are clean, but very basic. Just a bed, chair, small table and 20 year old tv. Feels like it is hotel room, but something is missing.

Spa is small and the spa's bar has propably slowest service in the world.

I would not come back, if I want to go to spa-hotell in Tallinn, my choice is Tallink spa. It is better from every angle.

We stayed here for 3 nights. We booked (and paid for) a triple room, but received at double with a extra fold up bed. The quality for the third bed was so poor that it was about impossible to sleep on it, we took one night each...
We complained to the staff, and they offered us another room. This was never given to us though beacuse the first three times we went to the reception it wasn't cleaned and the fourth time they had given it to someone else.
The room smelled like a toilet, and the water in the bath tub went out very slowly.
The hotell had great potensial for beeing great, close to city centers, breakfast was ok and it had a ok gym (quite old with carpet on the floor, and you had to pay 16 euro to join a class)
The only nice surprise was the service we had on arrival from the man who helped us with our baggage, and later reccomended a restaurant. Just be aware that they do get provision from the restaurants to send guest there so they probably wont send you to only the best places..

Room Tip: Be sure that you get the room you have booked, complain at once if its wrong!

We spent few October days in Meriton, aiming just to relax in spa, wonder around Tallinn and enjoy. Meriton was a good choice for this, not far from harbour or Old Town.

The hotel was quite new, room and bathroom were spacious and clean. Personnel very helpful, and capable of several languages. Spa was included to our package, so we visited the pools, massage&treatments and saunas several times. Spa and hotel were quite empty in the middle of the week, but as the groups arrived on Thursday, the rest of the weekend was quite full.

Breakfast was good, several options and large brekkie area. We did not visit the restaurants at the hotel, as Kalamaja district in Tallinn has plenty of nice small Kohviks to visit and have dinner.

As downside - the prices for minibar were very high, 6e for a beer and another 6e for 1.5l bottle of water.

As a summary, a nice and modern place to stay in Tallinn, a few minutes walk to Old Town. Would visit again.

Room Tip: We enjoyed the top 7th floor room we had.

Hotel premisses were all top. the spa and wellness centre had a lot to offer, the location was good, and there are several restaurants and bars available in the hotel areas. Rooms were nice, yet avarage. Old TVs though, in a very fashionable hotel...!?

We got lost on our way to the hotel, so I really wanted to get the room fast to take a nap. However, it took us twenty minutes to get the room because the staff was really slow! There was a long queue and it wasnt moving at all. When we finally arrived to the room, I was very happy. It was perfectly clean, warm and comfortable bed. Free wifi was also working perfectly.
We visited the cafe Madamoiselle which was located near the reception. It was very good and the pastries were delicious, but the girl working on the cashier wasnt too friendly. Its slightly more expensive than normal cafes but I found it nice that there was a cafe in the hotel itself.
The spa was a wonderful surprise! It had four different saunas and I loved the salt sauna! Although it was weekend it wasnt too crowded and there was even a bar.
We asked advice how to get to a restaurant but they told us the wrong way and it turned out to be somewhere else. But when I asked for the route from the reception, they googled it and even marked it to our map, so I think it was just a mistake..
Overall it was wonderful place, perhaps the best one in Tallinn and the spa is really good.
