Owner description: Medieval adventure! If you come to visit us you will arrive to the 16th century! We have a thematic park where children and grownups can enjoy the day, wear knight and warrior clothes, play games and study the life of medieval people. One of the main reasons to come and visit Rakvere Castle are the Chambers. Torture Chamber, Chamber of Death and HELL. Worth of visit is also Red Lights street, Medieval Brothel, Barber shop and Alchemic room. Quests are welcoming also different animals and the gloriest of them al is a Donkey called Mickens!
Useful Information: Activities for young children, Activities for older children, Stairs / elevator, Food available for purchase

Arrived the next day after a big event in the first days of September. The Summer program had just ended so only a handful of activities we got to do. So be sure to check the open activities/attractions beforehand. Unfortunately we didn't and got left out of many possible things to experience.

But still it was nice to explore around this old castle and imagine how it would have been to live here during the old times.

A word of warning about the torture chamber - if your group has a young member this is one place they will probably get scared. My almost 6-year-old started to cry and literally shiver with fear because of a part of this activity and we quickly aborted and went back outside. I feel like in addition to different warnings about epilepsy etc. the worker should have mentioned this due to multiple young people being in our group.

This was a beautiful medieval experience. The preservation of the history is very interesting and the castle has a very authentic feel. The traditional lunch and shooting the long bows add to the charm. The trip through the torture chamber was hair raising but the "modernized" special effects made it feel a bit corny. The best bit was sampling the local vodkas.

It's a mix between a ruïn and a castle, more castle then ruïn. Definitely worth visiting, especially with a familiy in summertime due to all the efforts the local Rakvere people have put into organising all kind of small events/things happening inside the castle. Through the whole day all kind entertaining events are going on.

The castle itsself: it is a good one. It's not the best, but there are many more ruïns in worse conditions. Rakvere Castle gives enough insight how a mediëval castle looked like.

Was surprised to see a lot of effort put in the area: a medieval fair with people dressed up as medieval people and you were allowed to climb and go almost everywhere. However, the minus comes from listening all of the explanations (e.g. torture chamber) in Estonian but not even available in English - which is weird since the entrance fee is relatively high for locals. Our Finnish skills helped us to say on board with the info but I can only imagine what the other nationalities were getting out of it.

Earlier I thought, that there are only ruins, but it was a nice surprise, that in the castle yard there were lots of activities. Also, the torture and horror chamber was classy - would not recommend to go in this chamber and labyrinth with young children - too scary for them
