We took the one day guided wilderness day trip which includes bog shoeing and a canoe ride. It was a great, one-of-a kind experience! We had a great guide, very interesting, who provided a lot of information about the ecology of the bog, its plants, etc. Walking with bog shoes is quite an experience and the canoe ride at the end was serene and beautiful. A nice lunch was included. The day is reasonably taxing, with difficult walking in the bog followed by the canoe trip at the end. You are likely to get muddy, especially your shoes. Although they say the tour runs rain or shine, I think it would be terribly unpleasant in the rain. We were lucky to have a beautiful sunny day. Bring a backpack to hold the lunch and drink provided.

Today we went to the birthplace of the Estonian composer Mart Saar at the edge of the bog land. The Saar museum was closed for renovation but the ride over narrow rubbly roads (we came from Viljandi) was more than worthwhile. From the parking lot there is a 5 km walk set out right through the amazing nature of this vast swamp. The path mostly leads over wood constructed security so you don't have to worry about getting lost or sinking in the bog while crossing pools and marshy territory. If you visit Vijandi you will find the place on the tourist map north east of the town, left from the village Suure-Jaani. Very recomendable!

My friend and I joined the Wilderness Day Trip which consisted of bog-shoeing and canoeing, and had a fantastic time. Our guide, Edu, was very passionate about what he was doing, and shared his excitement with the whole group. He was very knowledgeable and gave great explanations about the area and the wildlife. Bog-shoeing was a new experience for us and we loved it, and the canoeing was very peaceful and beautiful. The trip also included a home-cooked traditional lunch which was delicious and really interesting to try local food.
Aivar and Algis were very friendly. They allowed us to organise transportation from Parnu for an additional cost, and on the way to/from both gave some interesting information about the area and the history.
Overall fantastic experience!
Communication was difficult at the beginning- our email was sent to spam. But once we called, they were very quick and helpful with communication!

We did two different trips with Soomaa. The first was a night canoe trip on the Raudna River that began at 7:30 and lasted two hours. Aivar was a wonderful guide in our canoe. We began with a bit of fast canoeing, then, after about 15 minutes, we slowed down as we approached the possible beaver sighting area of the river. From then on, the river took us in a light flow. We were able to sit and enjoy the scenery and the light as it faded. We stopped once to look at a beaver dam as Aivar explained more about the beavers’ life. Back in the canoe we just listened to nature as the wind blew in the trees. We were so quiet we were able to see a large beaver swim from one bank to another without even noticing us. Later we spotted another, and, even later, we heard several as they detected us and slapped their tales and dived. It was dark at this point so we enjoyed listening to them. We also roused some ducks and were visited by several bats enjoying their nightly meal.

Our second trip was the bog and forest hike with Edu as our guide. Edu knows this area well, and is wonderfully experienced in the bog and forest. He had many interesting stories to tell. He imparted his knowledge of the bog, its waters, its growth, its terrain, its fruit, its mushrooms and the wildlife the entire landscape supported. We lunched pleasantly at the gorgeous bog pools near a boardwalk. Then we ended our hike with an hour canoeing the river during the daylight.

Both of our trips were enlightening and enjoyable. The only glitch was communication between the guides about our vegetarian lunch needs, so do be clear with them and confirm any special needs if you have them. Timing can be variable on the two trips. The night canoe was shorter than we expected at two and a half hours versus the four we had thought (and perhaps might have started earlier for better light as it was far too dark to see anything during the last part of our trip) and the second day was far longer that we had been told, as we finished at 16:30 rather than 15:00, although both were great experiences.

My friend and I went for this wonderful night trip in sooma national park. It was terrific! Our guide picked us up at our accommodation and helpd us get mosquito spray (which was found to be great helpful later on). In short, the trip was once in a life time opportunity. We were able to see the kind of nature we never see in our own country and it was also good that we didnot have to walk long to enjoy the view. Love canoeing, and the sound of paddling in a very silent river! I loved the time of being surrounded by this beautiful nature, Focusing on myself and the mind but without any need to hury my feet;) the trip was very relaxing, peaceful and beautiful. I will totally recommend this trip to my friends. Thank my guide very much for helping us to gave this wonderful experience.
