A perfect area for a stroll - many photoopportunities - nice and cosy small restaurants by the river..
A visit is a must in Vilnius

The best place where you can walk at Vilnius. It's so different from the city and it's like coming from fairytale. There are some nice & cheap pubs too. You have to visit it if you're in the city.

An amazing idea of hippies, artists and former squatters - to rebel and make your own republic within Vilnius. It's got its own constitution in many languages on one of the walls along the district and the whole district is lovely decorated with artistic touches here and there. Very artsy and very warm, to me it was my favourite part of Vilnius. The old buildings and crooked streets are very pretty to look at and you'll be amazed by all kinds of different art on walls, trees and railings. I especially liked the photo exhibition next to a mermaid which can be seen from the second bridge where the Cafe Uzhupio is, it makes a lovely touch to the riverside promenade.

When the war has left nothing but destroyed memories, lost friends and family, an uncertain sense of identity, creativity and humor can save the world you live in and carry it forward. With its serious constitution and its rights but not so many obligations, this nest of artistic and eccentric types takes you out of the everyday world. On April 1st, celebration of the independence, you can get your passport stamped and enjoy the tongue in cheek fun. Not to be missed. Don't take yourself too seriously, world.

This little self-declared republic is super cute! Walk around the out-door art gallery, get your passport stamped and have a drink along the river with the locals.
